I have an NGC 1oz Series I gold Goat graded MS69, and it prompted me to do a little research. I know collecting graded Australian coins is not particularly common, but I thought I would look into the census info on what's been graded to date.

    Code:
    1996 - Rat - 33 / 18
    1997 - Ox - 44 / 8
    1998 - Tiger - 39 / 21
    1999 - Rabbit - 43 / 19
    2000 - Dragon - 130 / 48
    2001 - Snake - 50 / 20
    2002 - Horse - 84 / 9
    2003 - Goat - 37 / 13
    2004 - Monkey - 34 / 22
    2005 - Rooster - 36 / 21
    2006 - Dog - 51 / 13
    2007 - Pig - 55 / 18

As can be seen, right now only 33 sets of MS69 coins can be assembled, limited by the 1996 Rat. Only 8 sets of MS70 can be assembled, limited by the 1997 Ox (and closely followed by 9 of the 2002 Horse). Naturally these numbers can change as new coins are submitted for grading.

Similar numbers would be available for PCGS somewhere, but NGC seems to be the grading flavour of the month.

There are also populations for graded proof examples of these coins, but some years like the Dog have a population of 0 for any grading in proof, so it's impossible to assemble a graded set of proofs without submitting your own coins. Challenge declined

very interesting, we just had 10 full sets come in recently surely if I got all coins graded I would get close to a full set of 69? 70?

They all have come from mint rolls...
Too bad they have been split and going out to people today/tomorrow.

Most likely if they are from rolls then they are a shoe-in for MS69, and cross your fingers for a 70 - apart from the Ox and Horse, it looks like your chances of MS70 are around 1 in 3 to 1 in 5 - that's good odds!!!
