As a newby, and interested in picking the SS forum members brains,
was wondering how popular for collectors the S1 Gold 1/4 ounce Lunars are?
in todays market. (and are S2 Gold 1/4 ounce Lunars worth collecting?)
Have a S1 1/4 Rat 1996 (yes the low mintage one) and was wondering what it's worth?
Thanks (in advance) for any info the SS group can offer.
    Cheers
    Aum

To me? Spot + going % premium. Although I'm not into numismatics so that's where I'm coming from.

So S2 Gold 1/4 ounce Lunars are worth collecting...
was thinking of going that way as a set comes in at 3ozs- exact.
(was around the Perth Mint when they introduced the Lunar series,
wish they had started then with 1/12 ounce coin?)
A 2000 Dragon is a fine coin to have. ;)
All the best with them, and thanks for the reply.
    Cheers

1/4oz are a nice size, its the only Lunar gold I collect in Series 2. I'm not a fan of paying much above spot for gold coins. Why? Because when you look at it, silver coins bring far more above spot when you go to sell than gold.

You can still buy a Series 1 Lunar Ox or Tiger for spot + $200 whereas with silver you can get much more as a % above spot.

If you buy gold coins, your fortunes are almost totally linked to the movement in the spot gold price but with silver coins spot silver price isnt such a determining factor.

Was that with cert and box hiho? Wonder what my 1/4 oz proof dragon and snake (both S1s) would go for (no cert, just box). Any estimates anyone?

I would have considered buying the Item number: 330586456353
and it goes to show this collector was only one short, and that was a Rat-1996

Keen SS folk can PM me if they want one.

If anybody is interested in one of these rats, i have some NGC MS69 graded over.
With the price i am sure well find a fair way.
On the Webside from NGC you can compare the number and you can see which coin they have graded with which number.

    Edit:
I have checked NGC Webside and found out they also have stored the pics of the box and coin. Great feature, one or two yers ago they only showed textinformation.
There are alltogether only 12 pcs MS69 graded ones.

Geez a 1/4oz proof snake just sold at the Melbourne SS meeting auction for something like $450. Just the coin and capsule, no case or COA.
