    Hi all

Few people mentioned they needed assistance with this test

I received another dodgy looking coin from a reputable eBay seller which weighed perfectly, pinged sweetly, but as this test shows is fake.

decided to use this with another maple I had to show how well this test works. All you need are scales.

So does that mean you can't just go on weight no longer?

Thanks, this helps a lot. You do also need to make sure your scales actually work! I have just found most of my stack is either fake, or in reality, the scales are buggered. Given where I got the coins from, namely the Perth Mint, I think it's the scales. If you buy a cheap set of scales on eBay they may or may not be accurate!

Just adding a big thanks also. Simple and easy to do, apart from tying the dental floss to a round coin LOL I always had doubt on a couple of items.

They returned a 10.5 and a 10.36 this one was at 31.1 close enough for me anyway.

I know before they would only accept things like ASE, Maples etc... I noticed the other day they had a XRF at each station. I doubt this is for coins, probably jewelry and nuggets I would say.

Suggest you retest - not close enough - should be able to obtain 10.45 to 10.55 min

    Whats the item your testing?

Whats the resolution of the scales?

Anything else you can test to compare results?

If your getting 10.37 most likely it's fine scales might be a bit off

Ok you need better scales - 3 decimal points - fleabay have then for around $10 delivered. Think you experiencing some bad rounding errors from the scales

Is the 5oz bar 'machined' (like Perth mint smooth finish) or is it rough cast (dimples and holes)? The bar is 999 and not 925?

Believe it or not but silver is porous! I have had odd and lower results on 'rough' bars so your probably safe

Yes its the scales. By adjusting the weight difference of 0.1 it goes to 10.48.

Or 0.1 may even be the string used.
