just wondering if anyone has seen any 2011 of this series released anywhere? i've searched around online and can't find any information anywhere, not even a blog entry or an image or reference to it. Wikipedia page says they are 2009-present but only has information on the 2009 and 2010. Did the central bank of Russia just stop cranking these out? any ideas anyone?

Those seem to be common motifs in European coins. The British sovereign has publicized the St. George slaying the dragon image all over the world plus the double headed eagle (?) has also been a very common image. Here shown in an Austrian coin.

the freemasons like 'em down, apparently..

    http://nationalheritagemuseum.typep...wings-down-using-books-to-find-an-answer.html

long tradition of double headed eagles too..

" In Byzantine heraldry, the heads represent the dual sovereignty of the Emperor (secular and religious) and/or dominance of the Byzantine Emperors over both East and West. In the Holy Roman Empire's heraldry, it represented the Church and the State. Several Eastern European nations adopted it from the Byzantines and continue to use it as their national symbol to this day, the most prominent being Russia. However, the design was in use in the East for centuries before it was officially adopted by the Byzantines, and was independently adopted as the symbol of several other historical states, such as early medieval Armenia and the Seljuk Sultanate of Rm or even similarly met as the Berunda bird in South Indian historical states (Vijayanagara Empire) ."

The gold version of this coin was the one that was rusting (had rust spots on it)

God knows what the silver version will do...get termites or something :/

The 2010 George the Victorious was released around November of 2010, so I think we have a number of months to wait.

Surely they would have released it by the middle of 2011. It's odd that there isn't even any mention of them.

Yep, the 2010 was released by the Bank of Russia on November 1st - then takes a couple of weeks roughly to reach distributors, although some do offer a bit earlier you won't actually get them until mid to late November. Same with the 2009 silver, so I'd say the 2011 will follow suit :)

    Whats up Silver Slangers.

2012, what happened to the 2011 St Georges? anyone? bueller? class? bueller?

does this mean the 09 and 10s are 'rare' now. defunct series?

can't find any info on these. somebody here must surely be a big enough coin nerd to know something?

Blockhead, sorry i can't answer your question but thanks for bringing these to my attention. I like coins with imperial/religious motifs (new thread perhaps?). Although the 2 headed eagle design would look more majestic imo if it had a crown as well.

Can you please tell me where you sourced these from and how much they go for?

Try PM'ing MuppetMeat. I believe he's well placed to possibly add something to this discussion and has some great experience and contacts in the Russian market.

Sorry for dropping you in it, MuppetMeat! :)

these are all proofs and 2010/09 and the ebay listing is the 2009.

I'm talking 2011 bullion coins. Downies sold the 09 and 10, there doesn't appear to be any 2011 coin issued so far.

That matches up with what I found when I was looking for the info for my website.

Everyone was expecting the 2011 coin to be released at the end of November or start of December 2011, but nothing came.

Here is the website for the bank where you may find more info:
    http://www.cbr.ru/

Edit: Hit the English button in the top right on the site!

Yes I live in Moscow and I have only bought one of these coins last year just to check it out . They are very expensive. More than double the spot. So I would not recommend them except as a curiosity or for a collection.

Here is a link to view some Russian Coins...only available in Russia though...
    http://rosnominal.ru/coinsrus.html

Sberbank is the main distributor here but again the good information is only in Russia. Here is some info in English but prices are not listed.
    http://sbrf.ru/en/privateclients/metals/

Nice coins sure but too expensive. It is way more economical for me to buy from the big US dealers and get it shipped to storage in Oz than to get it here and send it....loads of paperwork too.
