Got this off ebay a few weeks ago, finally arrived today. Was pretty sure it was a fake when I bought it, but wasn't 100% sure and with paypal will get my money back no problems.

I've put in the red marks where I think it looks wrong - all those hours studying the Panda book and reading here is paying off slowly!! :D

Please point out that I am wrong and that this is a genuine coin and worth heaps :) :)

    I agree.

    - Spacing on the numbering looks off.

You're a brave man to buy the most frequently faked panda on eBay :p

Just uploaded some extra pics of genuine coin that I used to compare my coin with.
Got the coin from Belgium, the seller looks legit so not sure wether he knew it was fake or just wanted to get rid of it. Have sent a message to the seller to let him know I want a refund, so will wait to hear back before I contact paypal. Only usually buy from reputable ebay dealers, but this time thought worth the gamble - the buyer is always right when it comes to ebay/paypal, great if your a buyer, not so good if you selling :)

    - the temple on the real panda looks frosted in the pic, mine is shiny
    - the base of the bamboo shoot the panda is holding is perfetly square on mine, on the real panda it is sort of splayed.
    - the "yuan sign" on mine looks a bit faint, not a nice clean strike that is on the real one

Am only comparing mine to pictures of the real thing, would love mine to be genuine but too many little things just don't seem right.

I've never had a problem getting a refund, but that has been via the seller with no disputes - so fingers crossed the seller doesn't want to be a p***k about it.

Um hello? Nevermind the dates and drawing pretty lines, look at the FUR!!! Almost impossible to recreate the fur and it's a dead giveaway of counterfeit. I'm suprised (and a little concerned) noone here has mentioned it.

This is the same fake I bought Andy, will post pics of mine later. Was played for a fool, they had a pic of genuine mirror on ad and sent me one that looked like yours. Dodgy Europeans man. Janawitchetsky (or similar) was my seller.

It' hasn't been easy getting my money back from paypal either so don't think it will be a breeze Andy and DO NOT take as granted everything will go your way. Paypal is short for take-years-off-your-life-waiting-in-cue-while-helpfully-getting-shuffled-from-dept-to-dept. I have been made to feel like the guilty party, not the seller, it's a unique talent paypal have. Make sure you can submit files of pics during the initial dispute and get a registered coin dealer to sign off as a counterfeit. Submit photographic evidence of return postage if they require you send the coin back...

So with my case, the case was granted and I was required to return the coin which I did (for the life of me I cannot understand why PAYpal require that, the sellers a criminal IMO, but there you go thats pay-up-pal for you). Then the coin was sent back to me a few weeks later, from Germany, unclaimed. Paypal claim that it hadn't left Australia and that there was no record of it leaving Australia. I had submitted the tracking number in the dispute, still, they reversed their decision because I never returned the coin!! AS IF THAT EVEN MATTERS!!! They must want me to return the coin so the seller can happily pawn it off again. It's an absolute joke. They sent email to me requiring my action with nowhere to enable me to act! So more phone calls.... argggggghhhhhhhh. Anyways, now I've submitted the statement from the dealer, additional pictures and evidence of postage. I don't know what else they want, I mean this isnt' rocket science!

Well that was a load off.

    Lesson learned, next.

Last time I got something fake off eBay (no, not pandas) and they wanted me to post it back I just said to them:

"Look, knowingly posting counterfeit goods in Australia is illegal and I will not do it. Are you 'Paypal', telling me to conduct illegal acts? If so I will approach the AFP and the financial ombudsman to resolve this issue."

    Refund issued next day :p

The seller was a douche, gave me a fake return address in Chinese which fortunately I could read so I knew it was bs and went straight to threaten paypal for refund.

Anyway good luck on your endeavours to get money back (both of you) :)

Not in my experience - the seller is always right in the eyes of Paypal imo.
If you bought via the credit card then i'd suggest going straight for that option first. They are also faster than paypal.
Just make sure you send a message to the seller outlining that you did not get what you paid for and you would like the seller to arrange for the collection of the goods that you received.
Also make sure that the ad does not indicate that the coin was not legitimate and take a screen capture in case the listing is removed.

By the way, the seller wasn't Herman Brood was he?
    Cheers

I've also purchased fake pandas from eBay, simliar case for seller request for returning of the item after I raised a dispute.

What I did was, I just send the broken capsules without the fake coins back and then provided the tracking number of the pacel as proof of return. Thinking that doesn't make sense to pay extra postage for the weigh of the fake coins which was ridiculious.

However, since the sender's address was written in Chinese pinyin, an invalid address format and I used the address anyway, parcel got bounce back.

Luckily I also got my refund.

No I didn't threaten him haha, I've done all the shouting down the line to paypal for a lifetime, really not worth the stress. Your suggestion was what I went with just let it speak for itself. Basically they didnt want to know about the legalities of posting counterfeit items, he said something about research that I was able to post it but diidnt pursue that thread.

Then it was a few minutes reviewing the case then he agreed to close in my favour.

RESULT!!! May get that 1/4oz proof I got my eye on now to celebrate ;) I can't help myself

Andy. Go with fishball's suggestion here, straight up if they ask you to return the coin.

Hope it will save a world of red tape pain for you.

    Good luck man.
