I have collected all of this series and I have to say the 2011 edition is really very lovely.
    6 coin set. 34mm coin blanks with a $2 denomination. 99.9 fine silver $363.00

I won't be able to resist it, I'm not even going to try.

    (edited for typo)

Yeah the Masterpieces in Silver are one of my favourite sets too. Really well designed.

Peter Strich showed me a set. It's terrific. Bought it on the spot.

    You... Can... Not... Resist...

I'll wait a couple of years and pick one up at spot.

Yep, you can buy them from the 90's at circa spot.

Yeah, it really is a shame that these signature sets go for so little, especially considering their low mintages.

At least their low prices allow small time collectors an opportunity to get something pretty for very low premiums.

105 is the least expensive price I've found for the 2010 set. How much longer before I can pick it up for <70 or spot.
I like both sets, but I really want the 2010 set.

I've bought the sets from the 90's at anywhere from under spot (yes under) to about +$20. Some sets have a mintage of 10,000 but sold maybe half that. The 1998 is a beauty with all the pre-decimal large coins in it.

The Masterpieces have never matured to anything though in terms of much of a following and hence premiums. I suppose the Australian market is only so big and their themes only attract a domestic audience.

I dont think many American buyers are keen on the "opening of a continent" which was I think the 1997 theme.

Iconic Australian coins like the Kangaroo etc have done better probably because of their theme and the fact they are priced (until the 2012 Roo) closer to spot.

Yeah... more furry animals could boost sales and worldwide interest I reckon...

They should make a "Native Wildlife Masterpieces in Silver Set". For sure these would be a winner...

Koalas, Wombats, Platypuses, Kangaroos and the Possums... cute and cuddly usually always sells well...

E.g. Grizzlies, Cougars and Wolves (Canadian Mint)
    E.g. Pandas (Chinese Mint)

I did actually pick up the 2009 set for less than spot a while ago, in a mixed lot with a bunch of other stuff.
I wasn't interested in keeping it and sold it to my lcs for spot.

I guess being in the US it's much harder to find these cheaply, as there aren't as many sets floating around.

Even the Pre-decimal should be treated with respect !

Yes, some of those Masterpieces Sets are worth stocking, although many are worth more sold as single items on Ebay, so it seems, than keeping them as sets.
One of the problem is the poor packaging and the deteriorating & sticking effect the boxes go through in hot weather, especially up North, don't know if you have the same problem down south ?
The 2011 and the 1998 are, so far, my favorites...
