Is there a difference between perth mint 1kg bars (.999) as opposed to ainslies 1kg bars? (.999) with respect to selling back?
I would imagine Perth Mint would get a slightly higher price most of the time. Simply because it's more well-known.
Yup slight premium for perth mint and pamp bars over all others. This was evident a few months back when some forum sponsors were paying spot for your 1kg generic bars (e.g. Ainslie) and spot + $30 for 1kg perth mint and pamp bars. http://forums.silverstackers.com/message-104200.html#p104200
My Perth Mint bars have become spotty and patchy...as far as I'm concerned, from now on they're just 'generic'.
Hmmmm.... then im still unsure whether Ainslies or Perth mint issued bars are better in the long term? ainslies are cheaper, i can pick up my bars..
sure is, if the silver price drop, get the hammer ready and take out the PM kilo bar give it a beating. to add a knock on the shinny surface. T..i...n....g. beaten up bar got more values
What's the price difference per oz after delivery is taken into account? Remember with Perth Mint that 1kg bar is actually treated as 2kg for shipping, because of the weight of the packaging.
Going on Ebay sales I would say that PM bars are easier to sell so that is the one I would go for despite the fact their bars can look a bit mangy. But the postage fee is a problem if you dont live next to the Perth Mint. If I lived next to a bullion shop I would just buy their cheapest bullion bars whatever they were because in the end silver is silver!
im looking at 3kg, for perth mint after delivery its 35.11/oz and ainslies is 34.37/oz (based on 3kg = 96.45 troy oz) i see now, good point there...on the checkout page perth mint has it as 70 for shipping + 36 for insurance. edit: i agree with the fact that silver is silver- the price of silver will outfactor the price of the 'premium' of who minted it in terms of where i should buy. in saying that i think ainslies is getting the nod?
With respect to selling back to a dealer, some dealers will take the premium paid for a Perth Mint or a Pamp into account, but largely silver bars are bought back by weight alone. And consider who you're going to sell back to. for example, Ainslie probably aren't going to buy back a Perth bar for any more than they'll buy back their own.
Yep, plenty of dealers just pay a flat rate for kilo bars (often spot). So work out your exit strategy and buy accordingly. Not much point buying premium bars if you need to ship them interstate to recoup the premium either... sometimes it's better to have what you can sell locally for cold hard cash (which is where building up trading reputation and a personal network of contacts can help - you might find a private buyer willing to pay premiums). At the end of the day don't beat yourself up too much over which brand kilo you get - at least you've decided on a) specific size b) bars over coins c) silver over gold d) precious metals over other investment, so you're already well ahead on the decision tree
Well if you can walk into ainslies and personally pick up your bars that is the way I would go over having to pay postage to ship bars from anywhere else.
I'd go for PM, well known, better reputation, that little premium, just a little $$ to buy yourself comfort and peace. In fact, the premium isn't as high as 1kg coins.
Perth mint are better for re-sale, beauty spots and all,and if your selling online, better with 10oz than 1kg bars.
