Not sure if anyone has came across any, but I've seen 1oz proof dragon with very feint strike on the queen's head. I could hardly see the details on the hair / crown, very disappointing for a proof coin. I had to refund it to the dealer i bought it from.. can't keep it for collection and don't have the heart to flip it to others.. If anyone still after one and don't mind the weak strike, go grab mine (was meant to be) from the Wynyard coin shop in Syd.. Good luck!
Thanks for the heads up, I never checked the back of the coins =D. Posted one off yesterday, hopefully it wasn't a weak strike one. Slam
Haven't seen the Proof but the BUs themselves are really weak strikes compared to Series 1 and Kooks.
Ok the Queens Effirgy on the 1 ounce bullion has extremely poor detail.. im not sure if this is an error but of all the 1 oz dragons ive seen ALL only show a faint outline of her ear.. i actually had to check others to see it wasnt a poor/weak strike./ LunaOwl? Did you compare the STRIKE with another proof because i get the feeling QEII on Dragons is just naff and poorly detailed 1for1
I compared it to the same 1oz dragon proof I already had in the 1oz & 3 coins set. This particular copy was extremely poor, at normal distance I could only see the outline, everything else is flat, had to squint hard enough to see some feint details. Even the guy at the dealership was surprised.
Pulled a 1oz Dragon out last night to take a look, quite weak strike on the queen, what the fail. Thank god I never look at the queen's head. My 10oz dragon looks fine though. QC fail?
Or typical Perth Mint fail? Gonna stick to pandas, the temple looks much better and has greater detail and they don't have weak strikes. In fact, I've never seen a modern coin with a weak strike. Not the Canadians, not the Americans and not the Kiwis or the Chinese. WHY PERTH MINT. WHY? And on a PROOF coin as well.
I agree with fishball the temple has so much detail and very 3D like. But with the Queen, who really cares? I personally prefer that side of the coin to have as little detail as possible. As long as the dragon has a good strick I am happy
I think it is poor detail rather than a weak strike in the case of the bullion one ounce.. for some reason the 10 oz i saw had better detailing 1for1
Between my coins from Canadian, Australian, British and misc other ex-Empire countries, I could give a fat rat's butt what the Queen image looks like. I've got some older Canadian Maples with a nice looking Queen. Sorta ironic but this coin has a weak strike on the date. Heh-
Remember that the Perth Mint Lunars are the thinnest 1oz coins in the world. They're already as thin as they can make them without the detail from one side being pushed into the other side so the multiple strikes needed for a proof have to be done very carefully. I'd say they were playing it safe and erred on the side of a weak strike and this one was just too weak. Still should have been picked up by Q&A but it was an easy mistake for them to make rather than an obvious one.
