1 kg pamps and 500gram pamps as core, didn't plan it just turned out that way. The 500g pamps are just SEXY!!!(don't think I could ever sell them) The 1kg pamps are not to easy on the eye, just started on the coins.Dragons and pandas seem like the go right now.plus nice to look at.
I live in a remote area and I don't have the most options so I buy when I have the opportunity. I buy whatever is easily recognizable and decently priced I'm about 50 percent bars (1, 5, 10, and 20 oz). 25 percent generic rounds, and the other 25 percent is split between govt issued (maples, grizzlies, wolves, ASEs, Philaharmonics, pandas, lunars etc.) And junk silver (Canadian 80%, American 90%, and some Sterling coins as well).
Mine is a mixed bag consisting of 10 oz pm bars and 1oz mixed rounds/coins. Only been stacking a couple of months, so I'm grabbing what I can get!
Mainly US Silver Eagles, plus a few Phils, Maples, etc to keep it interesting. I have to admit though to an real passion for the ozi coin ten ouncers, in fact I'm getting turned on just thinking about them right now.
predominantly PAMP kilo bars, ABC bars and PM bars......garnished with a pile of 1oz, 10oz kooks, 1oz pandas.............and now a growing smaller stack of gold bars in carded form and poured bars.........
50% pre-decimal due to low premium and tradability in very, very very small increments. I think I've probably got too much of it and should swap some for 10oz stacker bars.
For the core of a stack, I think it needs to be * bars * at .999 purity * in ounces * LBMA recognised Bars have the lowest premium, you need .999 investment grade, silver is traded in ounces so it's easier to calculate and LBMA recognised bars are easier to sell globally. Sorry if I offend anyone here, but screw coins - I want the most silver for my depleting buck and I couldn't give a flying fruitcake how pretty it looks. If SHTF really does occur, it's possible coins will flood the market (as people need to eat) and numismatic premiums could be wiped out. Then all you're left with is the metal value itself. I think numismatic premiums are a luxury that apply to an economy that is still in relatively decent shape but when things go pear shaped, it will be the metal itself in any shape that will matter. I think Mike Maloney agrees with me, if I remember his book. Also, it adds an element of emotion to what should remain a cold, hard business decision ("oh, they're purty!"). Silver is the "devil's metal", so I'm treating it like that. I'm looking forward to the day when I can let it all go and get something decent in the exchange (like real estate). But that's just me.
Core 10 oz bars with 20s 1/2 kgs 1 kgs 2.3 kgs 50 ozs 100 ozs 1 ozs Mix of 1 oz coins. Love big mexican coins!
I'm with you I like coins but half of my stack is bars mainly due to low premium, plus they look gangsta!
Core is 1kg PAMP bars. Rest made up of 10&20oz PM, 1&10oz kooks, 66 rounds... And the gold of course. That'd probably be considered core.
I only have 1kg silver PM bars at the moment but want smaller sizes including some small coins in both gold and silver. I really want the best deal/oz though I don't care how pretty it looks either.
Core for me is always the lowest possible premium. Sovereigns, Halves, Ducats and ugly old school bars form my core. In the UK, my holdings there are literally 100% rough poured gold 1oz blobs. Cost me an arm and a leg taking all of them in and getting them XRF'd, but I was totally new to gold when I bought in 5 years ago and didn't trust anyone with my cash...
Crushed beer cans. Don't know if aluminium will ever take off to crazy record highs of gold but it is well known it is the next silver, the bloke at the pub told me. Regardless of this stacking beer cans cannot be measured by the price of aluminium alone. However there is the inherent problem that they don't come empty so you will have to endure the emptying process before crushing and stacking. I appreciate how arduous this task can be so if you are interested in stacking Beer cans I am prepared to selflessly offer my services to empty them for you. All cans will be returned to you in a modified state 100% guaranteed ready for stacking. I offer this premium beer can emptying service to all SS members (or anyone else) free of charge. Postal delivery both ways at stackers expense.
Perth Mint or RAM silver coins ... whatever I can get under spot or close to it ... although some exceptions do apply *cough* dragons. I'm also getting into sovereign size gold coins as they are a nice weight and size. I'm trying to balance the $ value of Ag and Au stacks .... then maybe add a Pt stack for fun. I never really got into bars ... maybe it's the numismatist coming out in me. I think coins are easier to handle and roll around in.
