Kind of correct. The capital gains, in my case $2,500 is added to my income and taxed at the appropriate bracket. So if you are like most people in the 30c bracket, I will pay in tax $2,500x30%. If I had of held for 1 year then you get it halved so would have been $1,500 x 30%.

But capital gains are wonderful things to get around paying, you can defer (if you do it right) or offset against investment losses. In my case I wont be paying any tax on my Cap Gains.

    Listen to Matthews excellent advice!
So if anyone of you needs to make some investment losses to offset their gains, then I'd be happy to buy your dragon coins for a fraction of your cost ;)

So of all the bullion companies bullion bourse was the only one to offer Dragons @ a reasonable price first come first served basis? What did all the rest do with them?

My 1oz gold dragon from bb cost $1,971.76.

That's cheap considering what they go for overseas.

    Does that include online sales?

5k out of 300k, less about say 5k BB had, less say another 5k misc Aust dealers (probably not even that), I'd say 285,000 of the 300,000 mintage went offshore I'm thinking.

I think that was the total - I asked while on the phone - and they were the numbers I was given.

    UPDATE

Just came back from the mint (picked up the last of my quota of gold for my superfund). I was told that the online store is sold out of all gold and silver 1 oz coins.

The retail store is completely sold out of 1oz silver dragons and the lady told me that they will probably have enough gold 1 oz to last until tomorrow morning.

I think 1 day is the winner on the sell out competition.

Just depends if they will re-stock overnight ? I would think there would be some for a while. Is there any announcement on their blog/website ?

No, sent it by fax from work so i hope they didn't respond. The fax also had the wrong time on it so if it came to the crunch and they argued that i didn't get my dragons because i didn't respond within the required 1hour.....
I'm sure it will be just fine.
