Does anyone know when the dealers (and their internet sites) will start taking orders for the 2012 Dragons? malachii
Do the proof coins get released directly from the mint, or do we have to find a reseller to buy them from?
You can buy direct from the mint - I assume they ship to the states. See http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-13242-sponsored-perth-mint-lunar-back-catalog.html - the previous gold proofs are still available from the website.
Bullion Bourse are taking orders now on the 2012 Year Of The Dragon coins now. I saw them last night. But I held of until this-morning to order some as I suspected there would be a little dip. Fortunately, I was correct & saved a little bit of money. Personally, I think design on these coins will work best on the 5 oz & 2 oz size because of the intricacy. They do look great, but if you look at the image small it's lost, because a Chinese Dragon is so busy in is graphic. Coins larger than 5 oz may be harder to liquidate in 5 or 10 years time, but a 1 kilo of the Dragon would be truly spectacular. I could only afford one x 5 oz silver & five 2 oz silver & a little tenth oz gold Dragon. But it's still a little addition to my stack But, if I was ever to get a 1 Kilo coin it would be a Dragon.
I see. I've bought from the Perth Mint before, but with everyone going crazy on the availability of the dragon coins, I wasn't sure if they were going to put them up for regular sale. I'm going to be trying to buy a dragon proof for the set I am making.
You can order them allready here in EU but the prices are crazy. 75 for 1oz, which is MORE than the price of 2oz version.
Stupidity @ that price. Plenty of other things in this world to invest you hard earn Euro's in than an over priced piece of silver !
Agreed, plenty of other good stuff to potentially 'invest' in such as Canadian Wildlife series among others. Might stack a few 2oz/5oz dragons but if 1oz is going to cost more than 2oz no thanks.
That is easy to say, but I've allready invested in 400x Mouse, Ox, Tiger and Rabbit. Here is a link to one of the stores that has them: http://www.silber-corner.de/de/Lunar-II-Drache-Silber I have 500x Wolf and Grizzly, but they are getting milk spots and I've noticed that some of the coins (from originaly seald monsterbox) have been handled with bare hands and it shows on edges. It makes me want to go to RCM and slap that person few times.
Australian dealers do not even have enough for their regular clients let alone to advertise the bloody thing.
Why are the 1/2oz and 2oz available for preorder but not the 1oz? Basically I want to know if these sizes will have a numismatic value similar to the 1oz coins, or are people not really interested in them?
1/2oz and 2oz have no limit, they can make a few billion of them if there was demand. 1oz is limited to 300,000 that's why everyone is fighting for them. Premiums are anybody's guess but I think the 1oz will be highest out of the lot.
Having the other coins is good but dont be too obsessed by making sets of like 400 each coin. You find that the parts are often worth more than the sum of the parts. This means if you have the entire 12 coin series 2 set, you could probably end up selling each coin off for like $100 a coin individually but if you try to sell as a whole set you might only get $1,000. You might find for example 12 of your Tigers in the year 2019 will sell for $100 each but if you try to sell 1 each of every lunar coin as a "set" you might only get $1,000 for the whole thing. I wouldnt be too concerned in trying to make lots of sets, just select the coin you think will carry the highest premium on it in years to come then load up on that one and not worry too much about the rest.
