It would make no difference whether he was elected President or not. Bipartisanship is required in order to steer a new course for the US, and that isn't going to happen. Europe will follow whatever the US does (witness CHF), the only chance for change is if China, India and Russia decide they don't want to play the game any longer.

Not necessarily. As long as the Republicans get enough seats in both houses and support him 100%.

the status quo way of thinking is so engrained in most people here its extremely dishearteneing, and we have no one like Ron Paul to defend freedom here... it sucks!

Ron Paul -- like Bernie Sanders -- is admirable in that he isn't clearly corrupt.

    But who's fooling who?

Paul wants small government with even fewer taxes and regulations. This means he's zero threat to the rich, in fact he's their dream president. Banksters must quietly love him.

He wants to end the fed, im sure banksters would prefer their cash cow and endless dollars than a world where people can choose between real money and paper

Um no the rich don't pay taxes like you and I. The regulations do not hinder the rich getting richer. This is a fairy tale we are sold by the very people who rig the rules so they can take all they money they want to print, tax the heck out of us ordinary and send us to war when we aren't profitable enough as slaves.

I heard on the tv that Ron Paul had lost the 'Iowa straw poll' , on closer looking at the results he actually did extremely well (considering Bachman spent more money buying votes) and was in a virtual tie with Bachman,
Have a look at the graph of results (also over 200 votes mysteriously lost!)

    http://www.dailypaul.com/173497/c-span-live-coverage-of-ames-straw-poll-begins-today-1130-am

Now this morning - another segment about the straw poll on abc radio - stating that it was a run between Bachman, Perry and Romney (last two didn't come any where near Ron Paul in the results) - NO MENTION of Ron Paul! I am not into conspiracy theories but I am really beginning to suspect that the media regard Ron Paul as too extreme to be even considered mentioning!

The Iowa straw poll has always been a rather meaningless fund
raising event, tilted towards the most socially conservative.

Old Ron just doesn't talk about Jesus enough.
Stop talking about the friggin' FED and get washed in the
    blood of the Lamb.

It's too early to say who the Republican Party presidential nominee
will be. My guess is they will hold their noses and pick Mitt Romney,
If I was a betting man (and I am) I might put a few dollars on
Rick Perry; but I must say Michele Bachmann is kinda cute for a
    woman of her age.

What Ron is doing, is knocking on the door of the temple, wanting to overturn the moneychangers tables.

Ms Bachmann is cute for a woman of any age.

    :)

    You're absolutely right.

And, it's about bloody time someone over there gave it a shot - I can think of many other places where someone needs to stand up and say "Enough already" too :(

What I find interesting is that the media here has also picked up the 'ignore Ron Paul' disease. It's not just limited to the US. Even places like Catallaxy or AB where you might expect otherwise.

Latest polls had Ron at ~15% nationally; there is a real possibility that the 'fringe' overwhelms the centre from there.

The real difficulty for RP is winning the nomination. If he wins the nomination, he will dominate the election.

It really is astounding how they ignore him... It's so blatant. It makes me sick.

I was just checking out the latest on ronpaul.com where it shows Fox's post Iowa debate poll for the wider US public. He's well in front... 20,000 votes clear of everyone else. Then Fox go and announce on the morning news that in light of Iowa the front runners are:-

Bachmann (won straw poll by 1% over Paul, 4th in Fox's poll)
Romney (didn't compete in straw poll, 5th in Fox's poll)
Perry (didn't compete in debate or straw poll)

So... kicking arse in the debate & 2nd by 1% in the straw poll doesn't even get a mention... ?

Mickroy - I couldn't believe that the abc here in Australia did exactly the same thing - not just once but every time it mentioned the candidates - completey left out Ron Paul even though he did extremely well in the straw poll, virtually tied with Bachman - much better than Perry and Romney.

They actually said it (and again today) that it is a run between Bachman, Romney and Perry, absolutley unbelieveable! They even did a story on Perry the other day - NO mention of Ron Paul - It is very blatant !

This can only mean the 'elite' are really scared of Ron Paul!
