PM sent - still down for it, as I think are a few others. Sounds like a good trip. Had been tempted by a few trips with Norths Lapidary but this looks by far better - specially with fellow stackers!
i'm genuinely keen just for the social exercise more than any hope of striking it rich, but weekends are totally hopeless for me, a monday is a possibility but most likely won't work out for everyone else..
i had a look on the Google map where Deep Creek was ?! When i put that into perspective from where i am living, its kinda far for me to drive in one direction. how much for a mini bus or something?! Greenbank to Gympy is similar to if i were in Bosnia and told my friends, Hey guys lets drive to Hungary and go gold panning?! hahhaha its just too far, and as everyone knows, the possibility of 8 guys 'panning' on the creek bed for 4 hours each total and i doubt we would find anything. Might as well drive to Tamborine Mountains and pan in their creeks - same likelihood of striking it ( nil ) but i didnt spend that much fuel, car attrition, and time.
ok for those who pmed me last night dont know if you got my pms but heres the run down its planned for sometime in june its going to be an overnighter sunday till monday it shouldnt cost alot of cash just your fuel , and fossic licence , ill find out what it costs for camping and just bring a bit of food and tools pans and metal detectors im hoping with all the rain we had a while ago might have washed abit of gold out. ill keep you upto date as i get more info thanks chris
Awesome stuff purg, just keep me in the know re: dates, I'll have to make sure I'm off work/borrow the missus' car. Swaggy and boots are good to go Any other muso's coming? I might even be tempted to bring my backpacker guitar
ok new info 10oclock sunday morning at the cooloola info centre 12th till monday the 13th use google maps its before you hit gympie from what i can tell you take the right turn off the bruce highway. you can get a fossic licence there and its not far up the road to the area i thought there was a camp ground nearby but havnt been able to find one close by hard to tell on the map but will keep looking and get back to you thanks chris ps let me know if anyone is still keen thanks
I am up for it,Chris. Bringing a couple of mates with me to help haul the gold away Hope to see a few other stackers there too.
See below for a response i got on finders.com.au ( our cousins gold fossickers forum Brisbane is pretty sparse gold wise. Mt Coottha and the Enoggera Ck. catchment has a number of hard rock mines and there were reports of nuggety gold in the creeks in the old days. I have heard reliable stories of good gold coming from these creeks in recent years, but it is pretty much all National Park/State Forest. Outside that there are gold bearing creeks in the Sunshine Coast hinterland and Warwick. The real gold more or less starts at Rocky and north or around the border near Casina/Drake and south. hope it helps a bit
Yeah, personally I was thinking it would be more worth the effort for a full weekend trip to Drake/Casino/Tabulam. More realistic chances of finding some gold there...
ok update for those who are coming on sunday the 12th i rang the cooloola info centre there will be someone there to give us fossicing permets $6.50 for a month there are coming grounds just up the road so thats sorted so ill see you all at 10oclock at the info centre cheers chris
