Silver, is mining production reducing - not at the moment.

If demand and supply go down at the same time wouldnt the price stay the same?

And every oz of silver bought for investment purposes increases the above ground available silver so eventually there will be an over supply of silver, which wont matter if we go to a gold standard but if we dont there will be a time when you should sell your silver

Demand can drop almost immediately but it takes time for mines to close etc so in the short to medium term there would be a big price drop.

    Wout,

"If demand and supply go down at the same time wouldnt the price stay the same?"

All 3 factors, supply, demand and price, are interdependent. maybe not in exact balance at all times but certainly each influences the other.

Lot of people confused on this issue.

All forms of solar energy use silver.

The biggest threat to humanity right now is global warming (this will cue an attack on me by all the shit-for-brains who've been brainwashed by Big Oil, Big Coal and the conservative blogosphere, just watch).

When a carbon tax is slapped on mining, and it will be, of that I am 100% certain, the price of mined minerals will increase rapidly.

Oil is past peak and getting more and more expensive. Mining runs on diesel. Peak oil means Peak Mining, and hence Peak Silver.

As the world gets hotter and the weather wilder, the cry for solar and alternate energies will go up from the masses. Hello silver.

    The sky is the limit.

So you have been brainwashed by governments about global warming being a threat to humanity

I do agree with the other stuff you said about mining costs increasing etc

You called that one right - Just couldn't resist posting back, Normally don't waste my time arguing with the "Believers"

Here's a list of 34,000 Shit for Brains Scientists, (Up to their Arse's in Ph.D's) and that's only in one country.
And what special knowledge do you have that these people don't know about.

As far as I'm concerned the "Shit for Brains" crowd are the ones that believe the BS that the Main Stream Media is pumping out.

    http://www.petitionproject.org/

Page says 31,000 but latest count was over 34,000...

I'm more of a believer of global climate change as opposed to simply warming. We have seen freak blizzards and hailstorms and so on, not just ice caps melting. Nobody really knows what all this pollution is doing to our planet since not even the most advanced computer modelling simulations can predict so many variables in a complex system such as Earth.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm sure that some companies will just pack up their Australian operations and move elsewhere if it's cheaper. Either way it's going to hurt Australians relying on the mining boom. Even for Silver, Australia isn't the biggest player around, there are plenty of other countries that export Silver.

    Fixed.

Fixed. Oh, and an investigation into that petition found very few scientists- mainly engineers and grad students, and the scientists were in totally unrelated fields. The only academic climate scientist they found (and contacted) was aghast that his name was on it and asked to be removed. The list doesn't include city, title, or institution, making it pretty much useless.

Where did I reference Australia in this? It's a global issue.

I doubt that they're going to implement a 'global carbon tax'. If you think China, Mexico etc are going to do this then you must be delusional.

China doesn't even comply with basic environmental requirements, do you really think they will 'slap a carbon tax on mining' ?

Everything going on in this space in the world today is aimed at getting carbon emissions taxed in one way or another. Do you read the news?

China to impose carbon tax from 2012

I'll believe it when I see it. Change. It's different this time. We promise.

Governments are nortorious for promising something and then not delivering.

If China implements a carbon tax then the miners will just move to a more lax country without the tax.

It's almost impossible to get the whole planet to agree to something reasonable and simple, let alone a carbon tax.
