    Hi Guys,

I am still new in these and wanted to know why people will pay such a high premium for lunar animals ? The reason for myself is you need 12 years to collect them all...For instance, $750-850 will buy a 10oz lunar dragon, while with that money you can get a 20oz PM bar ?

Limited mintage, collected worldwide, legal tender status - they quickly become a numismatic item.

No you dont need 12 yr's for those already released, just a stack of fiat . It's the numismatic factor that gives the added value Stexe , limited mintage and beauty of design etc all add to the collectability value for those interested.

It's not just limited to the Lunar series eitther , many people will pay an extra premium for Pamp bars or other bullion pieces as well.

As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder , I would rather the 10 oz dragon than a 20 oz peth mint bar (at the moment) if I could afford it , but only so I could flip it later for more oz's .

those chinese colour lunars still boggle my mind tho, 100,000 minted and going for 750-1000 bucks a pop. the rabbit is "only" fetching 300ish.. wonder what the dragons will go for. had a friend living in china and tried to get him to get me some around the time the rabbits were released and he couldn't even find any for sale.

So Kooks,Koalas,Kangaroos etc don't get any 'Lunacy Factor'? Just Perth Mint factor?

So what preminum (if any) does a 2010 Kook get compared to a 2011?

Do you find proofs get alot of premium or the general bullion coins do fairly well over time?

Thats very interesting..I am also wondering why Kooks, Koalas and Kangaroos didnt get as much attention as Lunars since they been issued differently annually..I believe 2010 Kook will be more expensive as you cant get them anymore? Not sure..

Yea surely they are market for collectors aiming for proof set only. And with the limited mintage, they surely will rocket in future. Probably not as well as proof?

Not sure either - Flavor of the period thing? so Kooks suddenly become big collector item in 2015?

Will full respect to those who know better about this than me - in a Bull market fever - think Joe public would buy a 1oz Kook say for $100 much quicker than a 1oz Lunar at $160...even if the Lunar's 'accepted price' is $200
