    Howdy stackers,

Just wondered if any of you fine people knew much about bringing silver into the UK. I may be needing to head home soon for up to a year, and could do with taking my stack with me. Does anyone know the limits or regs on taking silver over the UK border?

    Cheers,

    RD

Be prepared to pay a tax of 20 percent on the silver value on entering the UK.
Shipping it to a UK address ( or yourself ) will not avoid the money grabbing Customs and Excise and if not declared correctly you can forfeit the goods and also pay substantial fines.
Don't try to argue that a 1kg Kook showing a face value of 30 dollars is only valued at 30 dollars so the tax will be the sterling equivalent of 6 dollars. A 1kg Kook is likely to be valued at GBP 750 so tax due = GBP 150
Not sure if you couldn't fly to Germany first where the tax would be only 7 percent.
Once tax is paid in the EU you can move around without having to declare goods in and out of other EU countries provided you could show tax having been paid previously.

Just dawned on me - trade all your silver for gold.
You can bring in gold tax and duty free but you will have to declare if value exceeds GBP 10,000 ( I think but needs to be checked ). This is just for money laundering purposes and to show you are not a criminal type.
You will get full spot price for gold in the UK if you sell to the right dealers, worst case 2 percent below.

Awesome mate, much appreciated, though a little disappointing.

I was looking forward to carting a few key's back home with me in my hand luggage, now I'll have to trade em for gold oz's, which I've already got back home... talk about a ballache...

I could have sworn you were allowed to take up to GBP 10,000 worth of "personal items" with you into the UK.

So you're telling me that one would have to pay 20% tax on silver bullion, but none on gold??
    how so?

Maybe you could attach it to a chain and hang it around your neck as bling?

    But you're a Pikey not a Chav ;)

Your not wrong, someone had a 1oz pendant on here a while ago - looked the bomb.

I'm more likely gonna go for a nice full Sovereign in a bezel, or a fat ankh pendant. Need to get some more tarot reading sessions in West End sorted first though...

Any Brissy stackers want their tarot read for an ounce of silver? It's a stackers discount off my usual rate of 65 bucks... :p
