Hey Guys, Been following these forums for a while now, signed up recently and thought you would be the best place to help me find the mint of this bar. It's 50oz, stamped with 1981 and a serial number. Haven't had much luck with the logo unfortunately, anyone have any details on it? Cheers
Harringtons Metallurgists Pty Ltd http://forums.silverstackers.com/message-36215.html#p36215 edit - Damn! was still researching when I posted.
I only found this website after doing a google search on a S.R.Mitchell bar I have. It was the only forum that popped up in the search.
While this thread is still alive, I may as well ask here and not start another thread. If I took in 5 x 20oz silver bar's into a bullion dealer, would I walk out with the same fiat as if I had walked in with a single 100oz bar? I understand the smaller bar's are more liquid and easier to sell, but what about at dealers?
Well you could sell to a dealer if you were in a jam, but most would agree you would get more money trading privately. However, looking at forum sponsor W Davis's site, he doesn't list 20oz bar buyback prices, but as a comparison, 10oz bars are bought back (at time of writing) at $32.10/oz, and 100oz at $31.65/oz. So a better buyback price... but probably not enough to make up the higher premium originally paid on 10oz/20oz bars. If your exit strategy is to sell back to a dealer, look for the items with the lowest spread per ounce. Often this is the kilogram bar, because they are one of the biggest demand items.
Thanks goldpelican. Definitely not planning on selling atm, just wanted to get an understanding as I have been buying from a dealer and bigger bar's are often available to purchase then and there rather than ordering in kilo bar's.
