The other day I spoke to a dealer on the phone regarding a deal for 100x1oz perth mint coins I asked which coins they would be and was told they currently only had Koalas in stock. I decided to go ahead and sent an email to cement the purchase. Once the money was recieved a different dealer emailed me back to confirm they recieved the money and to say that there was currently a 2 week wait for the order (didn't realise this) and that they could only get lunar mice. Are lunar mice comparable to the koala in terms of long term value? I'm suddenly feeling a bit uneasy about the purchase.
For the same price I would go for the mice, but thats just me. I'm pretty sure they carry more of a premium, but I'm from way on the other side of the pond.
thanks..am feeling slightly better now i guess. i bought them as a long term investment. i just am worried the koala will have broader appeal. they are the 2009 lunar mouse
Strangely I'm struggling to find a picture of the 2009 lunar mouse.. only 2008. unless she made a typo. does anyone have a link to one?
http://www.perthmintbullion.com/blog/blog/11-02-15/1oz_Lunar_Mouse_Available_Again.aspx They're dated 2008, so whoever said they were 2009 made a typo.
In America they seem to love the Koalas hence a better premium whereas the lunars seem to have a cultish feel about them attracting higher premiums in Australia. For some reason the Koala seems to have less appeal than say the Roo or the Kooks in Australia? Maybe we all know Koalas aren't as cuddly as they appear long claws & STD's.
Do some research on PM lunars and I think you'll find that you are even happier with your sudden exchange. The only reason mice are still around to buy is that the mintage wasn't reached in 2008 and they minted some more. But, if they were the only lunar coin this year, like the rabbit they would be hard to get by now I suspect. However, the koala is mint to order till year end so will be interesting to see what the final mintage is given the demand this year.
Go for the Lunar Mouse! It will be sold out shortly and the price will increase because you won't be able to buy it from the mint. Please note the mouse is the first in the lunar series. The first coin in the series generally goes up in price as it is normally the hardest one to get. In a few years time when others discover collect the lunar series, you won't be able to find a mouse coin anywhere and you will be able to charge what you like for them. Up and above the spot price of silver. I suspect the koala will be around the spot price maybe a few dollars higher but not as much as a backdated lunar. Generally if a lunar coin comes out at bullion price go for it! As once its sold out you wont be paying bullion price for it anymore!
the Mice are a win, I think they are the pick Bullion Lunar at the moment they nearly look semi proof'ish.
Could you PM me the name of the company pls as I think it may be who I am interested in getting 100 oz through? Ta (will keep confidential if you want)
just for the record, i found them quite pleasant to deal with on the phone, and got a decent price so wouldn't necessarily advise people away from doing business them. i probably should have been more specific when i emailed the order through. but i was told they had koalas on the phone and wrongly assumed this wouldn't change. i think its a case of you get what you're given, whatever that may be. fortunately it sounds like it worked out in my favor - this time.
wasn't saying it so i'd avoid them saying it because if it is the am more interested ... good publicity
