In the modern system assets and liabilities always balance. That doesn't mean there can't be an abundance or shortage of money. It all depends upon how much new money is being injected into the system and whether resources are being under-utilised meaning there is idle capacity in the economy or whether they are in short supply creating more demand than there is productive capacity.

I don't know much about pre-fiat systems but they were certainly revenue constrained, unlike modern governments.

So much negativity in this thread. Am I the only one who considers himself an elite? The world is so much more attractive when you are on the top looking down.

I disagree with Aelfred that there can never be a shortage of currency although the claim that in the modern system assets and liabilities always balance is fairly meaningless.

It might technically be true in terms of expenditure on a balance sheet, but this does not necessarily reflect value.

It means that his comment that governments may be short of assets while significant in the past is not applicable any more.

The types of assets held on a central bank's balance sheet can give some indication of the value of that nation's economy and therefore its currency and the opportunity it represents to investors and the stability it provides to the domestic economy. For example the balance sheet of the RBA is secure, the government doesn't issue securities denominated in any foreign currency and the RBA holds enough FX and bank reserves to ensure financial stability in the domestic market. Contrast that with nations that issue debt in say USD like Russia or El Salvador's plan to roll out BTC denominated bonds, the risk of default is greater with those nations as they are at the mercy of currency devaluations. Russia can't print USD and while ES can mine BTC it has no control over its price.

As a result the AUD has more value than the Ruble and El Salvador doesn't even have a local currency any more as they use the USD.

    Challenge.

For quickest and easiest results, use Google.

For maximum enjoyment, grab a pretty good telescope, and/or a terrific zoom camera.

Either way, look for: half moon, clear, pale blue sky.

Whatever your choice, observe your photos or pix closely.
Zoom in on the pix or photos as well as you can.

    Then.

Tell me exactly which PART of da moon will the silver / go to?

If you ask questions, I know you haven’t accepted the challenge.

Does anyone have a photo of a complete dark side of the moon?

PS: Old Testament fans may recall the part of Genesis where God describes the qualities and purposes of the sun and the moon.
