This post has nothing to do with the price of silver and everything to do with the appearance of one's stash. I am sure I am not the only one on this forum who likes to take their stash out and look at it from time to time. I am sure I get more of a kick out of looking at it when it is shiny and "silverly looking" as opposed to tarnished. What I am interested in compiling is: 1. If there are certain methods of storing one's stash that are likely to improve the length of time that it stays looking "shiny" before it tarnishes; and 2. What are the best products to use to keep it looking shiny (cleaning products or otherwise)? Cheers Jono
Meh - if it's bars or junk, handle away. Coins that come in capsules, leave in capsules, coins that come in tubes - buy an extra one to handle and leave the rest in tubes. If you have a number of loose mint coins, you can encapsulate them. But bars? Seriously, just handle them.
GP I could really have some fun with this, but as there are ladies in the forum I won't. But it is tempting
I use a set of metal BBQ tongs which i have modified by glueing a set of recycled rubber BMX bike brake pads onto each tong.I use these to pick my bars up with, carefully avoiding contact with any oils on my hands. I use a soft cloth with which to clean the bars with, applying just a smidgen of Goddards on the cloth.I find this keeps the bars in tip top condition and Shinny which is the way i like them.Doctaaah!! I vacuum seal my silver in the tubes or rolls I buy them in. I have coins from 2008 and 2009 up,done in this method. To date it has not let me down, people have said they look like they just come as mint fresh condition. I do not touch or handle silver. I have 1oz I keep in my pocket.
Hey whats up Dr spell check, thats how we right it in Gaelic. Man some people can be so ignorant!! REDBACK Hey Shiny thought you'd bite lol
hungry-jono, this is the "bible" of coin cleaning. Word of caution, not to be used on any 1938 Crowns or 0.999 quality rounds (don't even bother on milky Maples, nothing shifts that white s+&t without damaging the coin) if you are a coin collector though, you will shudder. http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-2822-auspm-cleans-1966-pre-decimal.html
