Was just thinking about net worth* asset weightings and thought it would be interesting to see what others have done. Most articles would suggest 10-20% weighting in precious metals but I'm interested hearing from real people, not sellers.

At the minute this is me (approx) ... subject to change very often lol

    Crypto - 0%
    Shares - 10%
    Precious metals - 20%
    Property - 60%
    Cash - 5%
    Super - 5%

*net worth includes principle place of residence

Do you know how much of your super portfolio is allocated to the different assets?

Do we use market value when it was purchased or current price?
Current market value or percent invested originally?

I think I am a bit - overly cautious in holding too much cash.

    Crypto - 5%
    Shares - 5%
    Precious metals - 30%
    Property - 50%
    Cash - 5%

I do SMSF so I know exactly
At the moment it's 95% shares 5% cash. Cash is mostly to cover some upcoming tax (and for my non-smsf the cash is quite high to cover upcoming renovations).
In my SMSf - of the shares 85% global ETFs, 15% AUS ETFs.
Of the global shares about 30% are hedged to AUD.

For this exercise, looking at asset weightings, you would use approx current values, as it gives a good idea of yr current situation and if where you maybe overweight/underweight. In a perfect world you would adjust them to suit your risk appetite/goals/situation, etc..

Can't believe that some of our forum members have only one percent of their net worth in precious metals:confused:

Makes me wonder what they are doing on this forum?

Maybe they are here for the intellectual stimulation provided by our esteemed moderator shiney.

Haha well for me it used to be more than 10% - but every other asset class outperformed dramatically. Plus you don't know how much metals 1% could mean...

Edit to add: I just had a look at my spreadsheet, I've been tracking monthly NW since 2012. For a long time it was about 15% of my portfolio, highest about 18%. But then as crypto grew it became smaller and smaller (as a % - not actual holdings) and when I sold crypto I bought property and shares - so even though the actual amount is pretty similar the % has changed a lot. I treat it like cash - I like to have a certain minimum/baseline but won't get more just because my overall wealth grows.

Good exercise. Everybody should review their portfolio occasionally.

Just sharing my current allocation (and my "ideal" -to achieve in 3-5yrs)
    Property 7% (10)
    Cash 30% (20)
    Collectibles 20% (10)
    PM[Gold] 10% (10)
    PM[Silver] 12% (10)
    Stocks[Aus] 17% (25) (including Super)
    Stocks[O/S] 3% (10)
    Crypto 1% (5)

Bearing in mind that I am homeless; and I would suggest to avoid "collectibles".

If I were a middle-aged homeowner, I think ~50% (40-60) allocation to property would be ideal.
the rest of the portfolio would then be "halved" percentage-wise.

Far out. Alot of rich or older people round here.

If we look at current prices, property value would outstrip all other asset in my portfolio. My closest asset following property would be PM and then kiwisaver although both of these are less than 2% each.

Property prices are balloning and i cant keep up with the other asset classes. Probably should ask the boss for a pay rise.

Our starting pay has doubled but our supervisor pay has only went up 3 bucks haha. We get the signing bonus but not much more money compared to the new guys.
I'm thinking of resigning from supervisor and let someone else have it. I'm the old guy on the crew and might be time to let the young guys have it if he wants to go the cheap route.
No one is going to want my job for only the few extra bucks it's worth now and we'd be moving at half the pace. Maybe it would be good for the boss to see this.

My boss is a trust funder and has very limited real work experience
He once told me hes had two jobs in his life, a paperboy and a lifeguard before he turned 18, got his millions and became "the boss".

I really like my job and what I do but I'd rather just be on the crew and not deal with anything else. I think I might just step down and let someone else have it.
It's been 8 years with this company and constantly training new guys and I'm over it.

Yeah I woke up thinking about this morning so I emailed him and said I wanted to resign as supervisor and let someone else take the reigns.
I told him I really enjoy my job and what we do, the traveling, the crew and everything is fine but I need a break for awhile and I need to back off a little bit.
Plus these young guys will never learn if I'm doing all the work and it would be good for them to take over.
I didnt say anything about the changed payscale and I'll just leave it for now. I'm plenty happy with my wages to be on the crew and just stack up as much hours and overtime every week as I can get.
