Australia is nowhere near ready to go cashless.
We need a stable power grid and reliable network coverage in rural and remote areas. Walk into any country pub or general store and you'll notice that people are using cash there more so than in the city. Townies are tapping their cards, phones, watches and water bottleso_O, they love the "convenience' but by doing so their slowly removing choice privacy and freedom.
I make sure to use cash regularly, I'm also paid with cash.

I've seen the chaos during a extended blackout in sa and massive line ups at the checkouts when the internet is down. "Oh you've got cash.... come on through"
Coincidentally i spent some time counting cash today for a silver trade not a trace of the transmission could be traced tracked or proven beyond the sale... total privacy all in a brown paper bag just the way I like it. ;)

    Petition signed

I wonder what the stats on wealth based crimes targeting physical (muggings, robberies, home invasions) vs digital (hacks, ransomware, scams, ID theft) are?
My gut feel is that my cash is better in my hands than online.

Crypto just doesn't feel right. Power outage, computer viruses, solar flares... someone steals your laptop/phone and transfers all of your coins away or you just lose your wallet (it's so easy to lose files or just store them on a defective external hard drive or USB memory stick).

I am old-fashioned, I am not a crypto guy. I just read about it.

I agree, however I am a crypto guy (mine and trade only to keep up with the hype). Having said that though I still think crypto is a big scam/joke that just got too big too fast like a viral video. Now (since money is being made from it) no one wants to admit that it wasnt really a thing so dev work hard to make it a thing.

I have the same thoughts about the fiat system. How can everyone willingly accept that there is a small number of people out there that can press a button and make money appear from nothing when the rest of us have to grind 40+ hours a week away to get a bit of it? The only difference is the fiat system currently runs the world and was invented before i was born so its like being born into a prison (i dont know what the outside world looks like). Physical gold and silver at least feel like freedom to me (not that i know what freedom is)

Disagree due to airline points (which BTW are useless ATM). However, I have provided myself with free O/S annual holiday flights (business class) for the last decade using FF cards and paying them off at the end of the month.
Can be used to your advantage if you use them wisely.

    Because they are sneaky bastards.
    Heaps of info on youtube

    1. CASH BAN HEARINGS Australian Parliament Senators Inquiry
    2. IN THE INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE (John Adams and Martin North)
    3. CITIZENS PARTY AUSTRALIA

2 and 3 are now fighting the bank bail in law by amending the law to be totally transparent.

The cash ban has been knocked on the head for the time being thanks to 1, 2 and 3. Since the lock downs there has been a small shift backing out of the cash ban.

Cash Ban, Bank Bail Ins are necessary for negative interest rates to work as well as complete control by central banks and governments

This can also be verified in a IMF report.

    Seek and you will find

And to answer your question: Central Banks, Governments and the Elites

    Noe they

Governments and the economists who collaborate with them. The primary motive for governments seems to be in prosecuting the drug war, making it harder to launder money, and maybe they'll throw in something about terrorism.

Economists are incredibly strange people to me, and alarming. It's stunning how casually they discuss and advocate the use of mass coercion, how there seems to be no boundary or limit to the things they're willing to do or advocate. Most of them seem locked in a very small worldview, like "monetary policy", and they'll spend their lives thinking of ways to optimize some variable in a fundamentally suboptimal and absurd system. So in this example, they like cashless because of something called a "zero lower bound": https://blog.supplysideliberal.com/post/55060544561/paul-romer-and-company-on-the-cashless-society

Romer and others also talk about prosecuting the drug war as though that's a good thing, a feature. They refer to "criminal activity", in this case meaning selling drugs or keeping your money, and they seem to sincerely want to help governments abduct and cage people for these "crimes"...
