Hi , urgent feedback needed. For reasons I wont go into, can someone tell me if it is permissible to carry 5kg of silver as hand luggage on an internal flight from Melbourne to Brisbane? and if any problems are likely to occur?

    Thanks

I've done about 2kg with no issue. Just take it out of the luggage so the screening people can quickly have a look at it, as it will cause curiosity when going through the X-ray machine.

No probs, I’ve paid extra and taken 15kg silver from Sydney to Melbourne.
They took me to a back room and inspected the goods.
    Give yourself plenty of time!

No problems, I carried a 100oz bar as hand luggage and didn't even get questioned.

as long as you have paperwork, should they need to, then it’s ok...going interstate is not an issue... overseas is a different matter

Why would you need paperwork for interstate travel?

If you are asked to present your paperwork, then you not be caught out. Alternatively, you can carry the 5kg as small slugs and swallow them, thus avoiding all paperwork.

PS: Just don't tell your friends this is how you move your metals around, as they wouldn't understand, what... being ignorant of metals and all. Its my preferred method of moving my stash.

That doesn't explain why you would need paperwork, and what would they be asking about?

I guess it just depends on who you get on the day! And it of course depends on which country you are travelling in as well.

I'm wondering what law they thought you had broken? It's not illegal to own cash!!

If the bank asks me why I'm withdrawing cash, I tell them "I'm going to the races". I guess it's a polite way of telling them "it's none of their business".

Correct! In India they know all about it. And likewise with life in "the land of the free..."

Any good law enforcement agent will be able to tell you that PM is not the same as cash. And they are not going to argue the point, and that's the end of the matter. Even bubblebobble2 was not fully prepared for what awaited him, but he knows better now, for he is better informed as a result of what life has thrown at him.
Riddle me this... which are these two individuals is likely to have their metals seized by law enforcement: (a) the prepared, or (b) the unprepared?

Essentially you should be carrying paper proof that you have purchased "like" metals (not necessarily the metal you are carrying); e.g. one oz gold coins. You probably won't need it, but if you do, you're prepared.

The naive would whine, "oh but I should be able to carry my metals around freely without any proof of ownership." When the wise-man hears this, he maintains a discreet silence, but the ignoramus is in full agreement with the naive man, hence he rarely ever hears any contrary points of view, and so he goes along blithely, until one day his metals are taken from him by the authorities.

I rarely carry a credit card, so I guess I'm a dangerous person.

Ridiculous. Have seen $50k stuffed in a backpack go through domestic no questions asked. The correct answer to any question would be none of your damn business.
