If the Russians attack Ukraine, they will be falling into Biden's trap to bog Russia down into more wars. Would the dollar strengthen and limit gold's bids?

it would last <1 month with Ukrainian military destroyed. and bit of upside on gold. Russian would leave the land there.

Let's face it, if Putin is healthy, he won't do this. It's a race with time. Ukraine and the West only needs to drag it out.

Who knows what they have in mind. Perhaps it's just a show of force. Could be a distraction as well.

I don't think Russia would risk a WW II-style invasion. That would be madness.

It's not a show of force, but they need justification for an invasion. If the US don't partake, it's difficult to justify. This is why Kamala is very smart. Create tension so that Russia is bogged down by Ukraine, but not enough to weaken Russia's military too much that they can't hold onto Siberia. Siberia is the real big prize. Ukraine is just a poor country.

Maybe I misjudge, but her look and expression tells me she isn't so simple.

Back to topic, gold is still going very strong.

If that happens, the entire European economic system will get a shake. The EUR will go down.

The dollar will go up and the US will be able to show off its muscles in Russia's backyard. Just "show off", not use them, because the US is too coward to pick on Russia directly (hopefully as well).

Not the first time. Do you remember the Middle Eastern refugee crisis?

Yes, precisely, it's a trick. But it takes 2 hands to clap, or rather 3 hands. If Germany shows "muscle", all this won't happen. Europe is having so much issue because Germany has been "free riding".

Russia can justify anything they please (in their mind) - their view is that they're legitimately protecting Russians (17% minority population) living in Ukraine; that alone is sufficient for them to justify invasion. And it's always been beneficial to have a huge mass of land between Europe and Moscow, the geopolitics dictate that Ukraine "belongs" to Russia. Note I do not agree with this, it's just how I think Russia sees the situation. They'll get the bread-basket, and Europe gets 30 million penniless Ukrainian refugees. Well - at least the women are beautiful there, so maybe European men get a bit of consolation after being forced to accommodate millions of Iranian/Afghan males (ex-military/police, deserters, former prisoners and otherwise unsavoury individuals).

Note European Union would do diddly-squat if Russia invaded Ukraine. It would be all over before they could even scramble up a first meeting of all the member states. And USA is withdrawing forces from Germany as Merkel has allocated the Bundeswehr budget to wind-mills and other energiewende folly.

I don't think Russia can get this bread basket so easily. They haven't secured Syria. So, it's going to bog them down, which is exactly the whole point. I noticed that the virus situation is not getting better despite them having "ample supply" of their own vaccine.

The virus situation (mind control) is the same for every country, Europe is pretty much paralysed with the whole thing and are begging for the Sputnik even though no one knows what it contains. Russians just don't care.
But valid point re. Syria. Maybe Ukraine goes first, Syria (and Lebanon) are "forever" projects.

    Which "Middle Eastern refugee crisis"?

If you are referring to the massive stream of illegal migrants invading Europe mainly through Greece, Italy, Turkey, then that hasn't stopped.
Only the numbers have somewhat dwindled.

Tens of thousands are still passing through multiple borders.
Serbia, Greece, Bosnia are full with illegal migrants caught between borders coming from various countries (including African countries, Pakistan, Afghanistan even from as far away as Vietnam). But due to stricter border controls, they cannot go through. So they are "stuck" and living as homeless mainly in the countries of Bosnia and Serbia.

My assessment is correct, the chance of winning is low, therefore a completion of "military exercise", or adjournment until a better opportunity or easier target arises.
