New 3 coin series from the Austrian Mint will consist of a coin representing The Milky Way (2021), The Black Hole (2022) and The Neutron Star (2023). From the mint's website, the series will be different in that it "goes a step further in the shape of three unique coins". The first coin, "The Milky Way," demonstrates this by having an "S-shape," curved the way the galaxy actually is (see profile pic below). It's an interesting design (even if not a full ounce and not at least .999). Several positions on The Milky Way coin have been marked: the position of the sun in relation to the rest of our galaxy; Orion Arm (where our solar system is), and the astronomical phenomena Cygnus X-1 and Crab Pulsar (will apparently will have some kind of connection on the other two coins in the series). The video below provides some additional details. Stats: 30,000 Mintage Proof .925 silver Weight: 22.42 g Diameter: 34mm
It's a nice design and shape, and it will be interesting to see what the next two coins look like, but I agree the less than 1 oz of .925 silver is a turn off. Anything less than 1 oz of .999 doesn't really feel "meaty" enough .
