Hi everyone. New to the forum so apologies if someone has previously addressed this. Why have many Australian coin dealers removed any reference to offering a PCGS coin grading service from their websites? This includes Melbourne Mint who advertise extensively, including in the latest Renniks issue. Previously existing pages on agents websites advertising grading services now display as “page not found”. I contacted MM this week about getting a few pre decimal proof coins valued and slabbed with no response. PCGS website in the states has now removed references to Australian agents. And their fees seem to have increased significantly. Is this the death of PCGS in Australia? NGC rubbing their hands together?
Known Eric for some time now... he did say some ppl thought he had switched coins... thus he ended this service
Not sure? It's still on the website. (I find Eric trustworthy, very very hard for me to believe he'd do such a thing.) https://www.drakesterling.com/news-wire/post/pcgs-grading-costs-and-services Imperial Coins offers the PCGS service, too. https://imperialcoins.com.au/pages/pcgs-coin-grading
I never said he wasn't trustworthy... it's just ppl who had 2nd thoughts on him... he's great guy & great coin selections... but not on my price range
For reference, Imperial charges $60 per gold coin (incl. insurance) plus handling $20 per submission category. Unfortunately they seem to use use PCGS Hong Kong - from PCGS USA the TrueView photos would be automatically included but PCGS HK seems to be still charging extra for the money shots. Drakes uses PCGS USA $55 per gold coin plus $30 handling fee but his pricing is without insurance.
Normally all send to HongKong or USA. Australia don’t have. That’s why. drakes orders less than imperial so that’s the difference , I got more orders cos I got more and more Chinese buyers , that’s the biggest market , Before oz don’t have more people like to grade coins. So I almost never care oz market But now seems like more people like slabbed coins. So I will have a look how much cost for oz market.
I don't think there's any differentiating markers on the slab. Just different in how much you pay and perhaps how long the turnaround time is. There's also PCGS in Paris but haven't used them (parcels tend to get lost in France)... Drakes says he sends them to USA, and Imperial's submission form says PCGS HK is their service provider (at least for now).
only european people send to europe other countries all to usa and hongkong its easy and quick, european zone customs is big pro, take longer
Had a chat with Imperial just yesterday, and they're saying they started sending everything to PCGS USA at the beginning of this year.
Old coins send to pcgs. Morden coins should to ngc not pcgs. Other countries all do that way Australia no ngc agent ? I am
