Depends on whether you are buying or selling Shlomo, and also where you are buying or selling plays an important part in determining value. If I was buying or selling on the forum, then a price of a couple hundred dollars over spot is reasonable if the 1 oz nugget proof coin is in original capsule and free from defects. If I was selling on eBay then a buy now price anywhere from $3000 to $3500 is doable depending on how quickly I needed to sell the item, ( longer timeframe is needed on eBay to achieve the best possible price ) The 1986-1988 nugget proof sets are my passion so if you are thinking of selling a Poseidon coin shoot me a message and I will make you an offer.
Thanks for the reply mate. I've turned my attention to older Australian gold too. If I decide to sell it or trade it I'll give you a shout. Tony.
I suspect it's proof, but I'm not certain because I've found conflicting information. The nugget & queen are both frosted.
Yes if it is dated 1987 then it is probably a proof, the 1988 issue is specimen grade uncirculated coin. Generally speaking the specimen issues have the design used for the proof coins the year before, although there are exceptions. Funny thing is it is harder to get the mass produced specimen nugget sets complete in cases of issue than the much lower mintage proof nugget sets. You nearly had me there Tony, I really thought you were Shlomo Goldberg, spannermonkeys famous actor brother.
Thanks for the info. I'm learning a bit as I go. A lot of very decent people on here. Tony is my middle name.
