Damien Howarth Is the best cooper in Australia, he makes spirit barrels of every size charred to your liking, posts Aus wide, check him on fb or go direct to Home Distillers Australia. He also sells boka/pot stills with keg boilers etc. It costs about $15 to make a TPW 50l wash which will give you 5l of spirit @ 92%, that will fill a 10l barrel (add 5l of water to bring down to 46%) & it will be good to drink in 8weeks.

I'm wanting to stock up on some liquors before the next shutdown. My daughter works at a liquor store here so she probably knows what's good but mainly I need something that wont freeze.
I'm just a beer drinker so I dont know the liquors very well or what would be good to get. I know beer freezes and will go bad eventually although I've never had a bad beer I dont believe haha.

Any 40%+ spirit won't freeze in a conventional home freezer. 30% and under gets a bit blurred. Can turn into like a slushy mixture. Beers will mostly freeze. If you want no freeze, stick to spirits and avoid liqueurs and other lower ABV content.

Yeah spirits that can stay liquid at -50° F would be perfect. The winters here are brutal in Gunnison. Might be the coldest in the lower 48 or close to it I've heard.

Hmm, that's like -45C. Much colder then a freezer lol. I'd say 40% would be a slushie at that temp, but I've never been near that cold. Some 60% scotch should keep you nice and toasty :)

Rob is selling 10 over proof rum 1125ml bottles for 15oz of silver, it's in the oct trading thread. That is a good deal, problem is drinking is no good for you, best not to worry about it.

"Water may be the universal solvent, but alcohol is the universal solution." Heard that one from a professor of chemistry.

Is Rob some sort of code name aye? lol. 1 bottle has been buzzed on that deal, so I guess the 10 bottle deal is no longer.

Also, consider home made ethanol 80%+ ABV for its utility value. Solvent, sterilizer, cooking fuel, pain killer and fire starter. Seems like a handy tool in a bug out bag. Can be made for sub $2 a liter using sugar and bakers yeast from Coles and a small gallon kettle still. But just FYI, regardless of personal/utility use only, not for drinking, or whether there is profit/selling involved, producing spirits in Australia without a license is illegal. (you can just buy the stuff from the store for a lot more $)

Yeah it costs alot more but the labels are so cool and exotic!
You can feel like a pirate one minute, then a saloon gambler in the Wild West the next minute!
Now you gonna drink that firewater or just sit there!
