Buying silver scrap can be a trap for new players.
I have been buying pre-loved bling for over 10 years and if it wasn't for the XRF machine, I would have been out of this line of business from the very beginning.
It's quite common to discard up to 40% of a parcel because so much bling sold nowadays are compromised.
Even if an item is made of silver, the fineness could be overstated i.e. 40 - 80% fineness stamped as 925
Also testing a kilo of scrap can take you an hour if there are 75 - 100 individual pieces in a parcel.
Not sure if your local bullion dealer would be too happy for you to tie up their XRF machines for that long a time, so factor another $25 - $30 to hire an XRF for an hour or so.
