People around me are rejoicing when they hear "food rationing" and "limiting the number of goods for purchase" - for some reason I freak out.

I can see the humanitarian benefits of food rationing and I dislike people who hoard much more than they need, while others (the old, the sick) go hungry.

BUT: with rationing a new breed of wild socialism will rise. My concern. Remember Lenin, Stalin and the rest. Disgusting.

Having to buy food in limited amounts with food tickets is already Orwellian. But what else could people do to feed everyone?

i dunno maybe grow some themselves.

My grandparents went through the depression era and didn't stop growing their own food well into their 70's. Hard to do when you live in an apartment but many people have options.

I don't think we will see serious food shortages. Some short term events but mostly ok. Most countries in worse situations were able to sort this out. Of course in the US the National Guard maybe required as I am sure a few people may feel they should just have what they want and try to take matters into their own hands. That will not turn out well,

Corporations and corrupt governments will use the Corona pandemic to undertake whatever they normally wouldn't be able to.

They will just push anything down our throats.

Sheeple are already rejoicing for neo-socialism. I head younger people talking about "socialism is not bad after all", they'd embrace food rationing etc.

It's sad, but these are the events that make people happily embrace:
    - a cashless society (but if you don't hold it, you don't own it, obviously...)
    - vaccines (with potentially disastrous side-effects...)
    - food rationing, meal tickets
    - limitation of movement (like you're not allowed to move from one city to the other)
    and so on...

As soon as this thing hit the news I was wondering what "solutions" they would roll out. No doubt the vax has been sitting in the sidelines since day one.

They want the panic to build up. Once the situation gets terribly severe, people will take it more seriously. This means: many people will die and only then will they come up with a vaccine.

I hope it's not the one made by Bill Gates, you know what I mean :D

Orwellian Paradise Beach... Like a nice menu of cyanide-gasoline-sulfuric acid cocktail with arsenic cookies... No bacterias, no viruses there. Only skeletons walking hand in hand.

They are not getting a vaccine for this .
    No MERS vaccine?
No vaccine for the common cold which is either a Rhino virus or one of 4 coronaviruses that regularly circulate around us.
And if you think about the fact we have 4 coronaviruses that regularly infect us then WE HAVE NOT GOT ACQUIRED IMMUNITY which is why people keep getting colds.

Products that disappeared from the shelves of most Eastern European supermarkets, food stores and pharmacies:
    - sanitary alcohol (usually has blue color - in case you don't know what I mean by "sanitary alcohol")
    - hand sanitizers
    - face masks
    - bleach

Products extremely scarce (can barely be found):

    - flour (some shops claim that they were expecting shipments for 1 week)
    - dried fruits (almost impossible to get)
    - meat (only very few, mostly left-overs)
    - single-use protective gloves
    - ready-to-eat canned foods (noodles, soups, canned bean meals etc.)
    - milk powder
    - spaghetti

What's about to disappear (relatively scarce, but not extremely scarce):
    - fish and sea fruits, octopus
    - bread (I hear that the flour has disappeared even from the depots of the bread makers, so basically it's a supply chain interruption)
    - gem
    - berries (rarer than nuts, but can still be found)
    - honey
    - toilet paper
    - paper tissues
    - pasta (except spaghetti, which is almost gone with the first waves of hoarders)
    - various cleaning products (soap, cleansing pastes, dishwasher liquids etc.)
    - potatoes
    - rice
    - biscuits (salty ones get sold-out fast)
    - cabbage
    - green salads
    - lentils
    - instant soups (powders and pastes included)
    - multiple-use protective gloves (usually comes in pairs and can be re-used if washed, but costs more than a pack of 10 single-use ones)
    - salt
    - packaged and sliced meats (bacon, salami etc.)
    - cheese
    - canned fish
    - canned beans
    - canned mushrooms
    - canned apricots/peaches
    - beer
    - butter
    - sugar
    - protein bars and energy bars (in the first 3-4 waves, these were still being sold in abundance, but now their numbers have dwindled, some are quite rare)

    What's plentiful:
    - canned goods (but again, the high quality canned goods have disappeared)
    - nuts
    - teas (most of them being fake, full of artificial flavors and coloring substances)
    - strong alcohol drinks (high concentration like: whiskey, tequila, vodka, gin etc.)
    - fresh fruits
    - pickles
    - spices (like red paprika, pepper, chili etc. - except salt!)
    - yogurt and milk
    - bottled water
    - canned pineapple
    - shampoo
    - lotions, cremes, hand cremes
    - deodorants
    - aftershave (which can be a substitute for sanitary alcohol, but for 5x the price!)
    - sweets (chocolate, cookies, jellies, cakes etc.) and snacks (tortilla snacks, potato chips etc.)
    - fake drinks (like Coke, Sprite, Schweepes etc.)
