Why do you buy silver? What is your philosophy? Can you state and explain in a clear and cogent way why? I've heard many reasons. Some make sense, some don't. Please stay on point You might want to check out my other thread in the Wealth Management forum My Path To Wealth.
I buy silver because my home currency is the AUD and it is going down fast against other major currencies so I use it as a hedge. I also buy it to sell at a higher value in the future, again getting more AUD so I can buy goods and services. Then there is also the look and touch value, sometimes I just like the artistic look of a silver coin and buy it for that. For example I recently bought some Canadian 1 oz silver coins. You got to admit the RCM Peregrin Falcon, RCM Cougar and the RCM Great Horned Owl look terrific.
I mainly stack for retirement savings and to keep wealth out of the system. I also stack for my children. They will get 1000ozs each when they turn 25 (in about 20 years). I'm hoping it will give them a bit of a leg up. If silver does some crazy things in that time (like moon shooting) I may liquidate and transfer into other assets.... But I don't hold my breath for that. I do wish that I bought more gold though. 10.5 Oz's isn't anything to shy away from, but my ratio of gold to silver is astronomical... I just can't help myself when silver is so undervalued relatively speaking. I also stack Smithy's Bullion. I can't get enough of his work! I will likely never sell the collection I have. I get to hold, touch and enjoy his Bullion art on a whole different level to my boring bars + coins in tubes and capsules. I have plenty of higher premium silver coins, but I don't collect them - I only stack them (and I hate it, they take up too much space). Smithy's Bullion is the only Bullion I actually collect.
I also like the fact that when I convert my currency to silver I don't view it as an option to convert back to currency and spend it. It's never something I factor into my "available funds". Someone like myself who has a lot of expensive hobbies, this is ideal.
Just take a look at the economy and the markets. It's my main reason. Only a fool couldn't see what was coming. No offense court jester!
Tide comes in, tide goes out. Cycles repeat. I saw gold starting to move in about 2005 and saw the eerily similar pattern to the gold boom of the 70’s. This pattern is still holding albeit the time scale is between 3 and 4 times longer for a price multiplier of about 10. I chose silver because it should follow suit but have a greater price multiplier. So in summary, greed was the motivator.
Silver and gold stocks totally decimated. AG is down like 30% in just 3 weeks. I was thinking of buying pm stocks a couple months ago. Luckily I bought gold instead. Credits to the forum that is pro-gold.
If you were are a part of the great equity bloodbath in 2007-2008, then you would be once bitten, twice shy. The online gold and silver mavens of that time shouted to the rafters about how great it was to invest in “miners” especially “junior explorers” at the time. In reality, these were some of the worst hit stocks in the whole market. The right time to buy was when there was blood in the streets (with some amazing bargains such as Oceana Gold) Then in 2011 for a brief period, some junior precious metal mining or exploration stocks did very well. If this bear plays out anything like the last, then avoid PM equities. There is one notable difference. Last time the issue was the US securitised mortgage market stuffed to the gills with “liar loans” or “NINJA loans” (no income no job or assets) This time it is a pandemic of sorts. It might kill off some of the boomer PM shills that should have shut their mouths after being so wrong in 2008. Every cloud has a silver lining.
Just in case you missed it, this is the subject of this thread. Physical silver, not the stock market.
Because its tangible, liquid, has a big upside and its anti fiat. Theres no better way to store my savings that I know of. Also for the historical reason that its money and always returns as money and will again. There is nothing different this time. There are lots of reasons.
This has nothing to do with the subject of the thread. No explanation of your philosophy as to WHY you buy physical silver.
