I recently saw a "mule" 2000 1oz silver proof kookaburra (has a $200 denomination on the obverse, rather than $1). I wonder if there are any other PM error collector coins?
OK, you can see images of the coin (actually a 2001 kook and not a 2000) on p. 34, item 410, at: https://www.iagauctions.com/files/IAG_OS13_Cat.pdf The description reads: "2001 Mule Perth Mint 1oz silver Proof Kookaburra (McD p347). Struck with $200 platinum/gold Obverse design in error. In box of issue with certificate (box slightly damaged). Originally around 100 were minted before the error was discovered, with 80 or so being returned to the mint from collectors on request of the mint, and as low as only 20 possibly remaining. Similar examples have been sold at auction for over $7000. A major and significant error. Rare".
There was another error recently where the dragon & Phoenix 1 oz issue had errors, but minor compared the $200 error.
Here is another 2001 proof kook 1oz mule: https://www.wynyardcoins.com.au/sho...2001-kookaburra-3-coin-silver-proof-set-mule/
I reckon that if I worked at the Perth Mint, I'd have at least 100 mule coins in my collection. I think every Christmas they strike a mule as a Christmas bonus!
Yes it is rare but one has ended up in my collection but not in a set just the single coin? would be interesting to know how the coa are numbered as they will be all over the place !!
