I’ve been stacking ASEs and some Canadian Maples, but now getting a little bored and want to expand my stack. Looking for suggestions about your favorites....thanks!

I’ve looked at those - thanks! Do they appreciate beyond the spot value?

ASE, Maples, and PM Kangaroos take up most of my stack. Few kookaburras and koalas, few Philarharmonicas aswell.

Yes they do. But to be honest they nearly always go on sale $5 AUD above spot when released so there is quite a gap there to start with. Some of the more rare kookaburras fetch quite good prices whilst others are just between that $3 to $6 over spot margin. They are fun to collect, I got 29 (each year) of them now and the 2020 one comes tomorrow taking it to a full set of 30.

Queens Beast coins for me! Love all of them.

Edit: QB’s are more my collector coin of choice, for pure “stacking” I’m mainly kangaroos

My favourite 'modern' design is kangaroo at sunset, not really for stacking though cause of the premium, for stacking I'm with STC 50c rounds work on so many levels. If you want 999 I'm leaning towards the staple - kooks and maybe Roos if the price is right.

1/20 .999+ gold coins and 50% florins are my go to for stacking now. Easiest to buy on a budget.

the great thing about stacking sovs is they are small and thus easily stored, may carry numismatic value and they are conveniently .2354 of a troy ounce. They are also alloyed so harder than fine gold.

Maybe not that accessible in the USA however (assuming OP is there).

I really wanted to stack BU 1964 Kennendy half dollars when they went for spot on APMEX a few years back. The cost of bringing them to Australia precluded it, even with the arbitrage. But in the USA, I would not have hesitated. It is the equivalent of the round 1966 Australian 50c in the sense of being the last main silver circulating coin. But as they are BU whereas most round 50s are circulated, there is a small numi boost that should only grow, particularly if the time scale is 20 to 30 years. It's also JFK!

I'd have also bought sacks of junk silver, where you might pick up the odd numi. It is quite hard to find .925 junk Australian silver in quantity now. What you tend to get is the tailings of a dealer or collector who has bought lots from deceased estates and picked the eyes out of it. Even that is hard to come by - not often you see it here on SS.

Some ASEs carry a premium over melt value. 1986, 1987 and one other (which has the highest, more than $20 USD over spot). It might have been the 2009, but you'd have to check.

Maples are generic I think. The milk spots turned me off. I have one just to have an example.

For Australian coins, lunars bought at the same price as generic stuff is a good target which sometimes can be met. I wonder if the main market for them is China and SE Asia (so they do well in Australia), but I have looked at sales in the US Ebay and they seem to go well.

Jim4silver here (US) posted elsewhere here recently that silver numi prices are way down in the US. I know they are a bit down in Aus. If you can find them selling for a small fraction of their sold price several years ago then you might try that angle.

If you are just trading off the silver price and nothing else, consider buying the cheapest bars you can versus the resale price

    Good luck!
