It will be a bargain if silver goes to $40AUD and beyond and stays there. All a matter of timing isn't it?
Love this guys will certainly buy this coin mind you I would buy any Kookaburra coins I don`t have that`s for sure .One of the best designs the Mint has done .
"Unlimited"? You meant like "QE" for pure silver coins? That would be disaster. Usually they have a mintage limit of 500,000: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Silver_Kookaburra
I'm a fan of these coins... The 1oz Kooka hasn't sold out the last couple of years (ie less than 500,000 mintage), but suspect this year will be over-subscribed.
Me too a big fan and will be interesting to see if this sells out 2018 in particular has a very low declared mintage and will be closing watching on the 2019 The 2020 should be a winner, well that’s my thoughts
Sorry only just saw this reply. The below chart may answer your question. The Perth Mint didn’t produce the full mintage, probably because silver had been somewhat forgotten by investors in 2017/2018. That is the sort of thing you want to see before a new bull market takes hold
Apologies everyone, I’ve bought ALL of the 2020 1oz silver Kookaburra’s. But seriously, they are selling fast.
I like the 2020 Kookaburra but what I find amazing is that last year at around this time you could buy the 2019 Kookaburras at around $25 an oz when buying the tray of 100. This year that same tray for the 2020 is near $32. Spot is up, we all know that but why the rush this year? People are funny, when spot is down and just plain cheap they do not buy. Yet when it jumps like it has in the last 12 Months they are knocking the doors down to buy. So my question is why do people rush and pay substantially more for essentially the same product 12 Months later?
Couple of reasons... 1. Some people are smart & buy based on when the silver chart is bullish. They don’t want to hold for 10-20yrs in the hope that it may turn bullish down the track. 2. Some people buy based on good design. For example I also bought a lot of 2008 kook’s when they were first released. Now they are worth quite a bit
The reverse is a fantastic design. I like it more than the obverse, however it's awesome having two designs on the one coin with the queen shrunk down for size.
So, how do we find out about the real mintage? This is the first time I see "unlimited mintage" for Kookaburras.
Absolutely. The premiums on those years are already quite substantial thanks to the low montage numbers. I’ve got a couple rolls of each year in the deep stack, and will probably hold them for a few more years just for that reason.
I bought a nice stack of the 2018s last year for around $26 an ounce when nobody was interested in silver. I think it's also an underrated design and one of my favourite kooks.
Question about 2oz gilded proof. These are fetching very high prices, apparently sold out. Have they even been shipped? Like the 2020 swan proof, I haven't seen one in the wild...
Mine has was posted on wed. The mint said there was a slight delay so here`s hoping.? I ordered a second one for my granddaughter from Downies but seems that there is a problem .I can only assume they are in short supply as only 1000 were going to be minted .
Those 2oz are $500-600 on the secondary market. These might be a good litmus test since 2oz and/or gilded and/or 1000 max mintage Kookaburras haven't really held up well in historical auctions.
