Hey all Interesting article about the asteroid named Psyche 16. It's full of enough gold to make everyone on earth 93 billion dollars richer. https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/a...che-and-all-that-gold-won-t-make-earth-richer Thoughts?
What are the costs to get this asteroid back to earth? You have to stop it moving in the direction it's currently moving, then get it moving back towards earth... Can't imagine it will be cheap.. or if the technology to do such a thing has even been invented yet?
No, because it wouldn't be worth that anymore "if" they could access it, so the value is imaginary. Anywho they clearly can't get to it anyway. These kind of stories pop up all the time. Somewhere in the endless universe lays an unlimited amount of everything.
All this hype about 'quintillion dollars worth of gold' reminds me of the Mississippi Bubble with the French Colonial Mississippi/Occidental Company. Spruikers hyping the idea that some unexplored frontier (then Mississippi/now Belt Asteroids) was stupendously rich in precious metals. Everybody went mad trying to "get in on the action at any price" pushing price of stock and derivatives like futures to ludicrous heights. Classic Bubble behavior. When the first prospectors came back from the wilderness with disappointing results, the stock and futures rapidly depreciated until they reached toilet paper status.

Stick a jet on it and move it into Earth's orbit. Set up a mining camp on the asteroid, I am sure Gina could get some Indonesian workers up there for minimum wage, then just cut bits off and fire them towards the earth. Some will burn up and some will hit a few buildings but that is what insurance is for. It should be sufficiently difficult to justify keeping the prices high, plus I would pay more for space gold.

At my age after too many beers I find it hard to lust, so I won’t be able to waste time on the love bit with them.
