Recently I bought a perth mint vintage gold bar from my friend. I notice that there is no purity engraved on it. Only the weight(1/2 oz) and the lettering "Fine""The Perth Mint" can be seen on it. Is it fake? Why does it not have the purity number such as 9999 on it?

That's likely an old 996 purity bar if it's unmarked.

The old PM 1oz bars that are just marked with 'fine' are not 9999. They are mostly 996, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less

No purity engraved means it's worth more then if it was engraved = old.
