Hi all, just posting so others know to be wary about this counterfeit. I purchased this coin on eBay and received it today, upon close inspection the coin is obviously a counterfeit (font errors, kangaroo has errors all over it) however the slab and holograms are pretty accurate and the serial numbers check out on the NGC verification system!
I hope you can get your money back. That is a lot of $$$$ there. There are protections for the buyers, do whatever you have to to get a refund, good luck mate.
refund is already being processed, eBay buyer protection covers counterfeit goods even if the seller is uncooperative never ever buying off eBay again thats for sure!
The photos you pasted are from the original eBay listing. Those photos clearly show that it's a fake. Also the seller's feedback had this negative feedback from a previous buyer: BEWARE trying to sell FAKE gold coins in FAKE PCGS holders. Hello! You are lucky eBay has buyer protection for cases like this. Hopefully you can leave the seller negative feedback, and use this as a learning experience.
This is very weird looking roo when I've compared to coin purchased at Perth Mint. Hopping you will get money back!.
It might be a native Kangaroo from the mainland of China. It could be one of that almost extinct variety found in Nthn. China.
herky - I have the real mccoy (bought a number of them in 2009 from the mint). If you want to buy, pm me, once you get your money back.
I was curious what the op means by "serial numbers check out on the NGC verification system!" I just can not seem to locate this coin in their registry but im not the most clued up.
Cheers mate. Now i know we have been told it is fake but depending on the angles of the photos i may well have bought this as well. Am i missing glaring issues here? HMy old brain does not work well with photos i guess. EDIT: scratch that. They jumping out like dogs balls now
The cartoonish kangaroo is intentional. I’ve noticed that the copyright law in China somehow doesn’t apply unless it is a exact replica. So you will have replicas with a wrong font, wording or image that is slightly different and it is considered legal.
Here is an article from Zero Hedge that may help detect fakes. https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-04-29/build-magnetic-tester-gold-silver-under-50
