It is my opinion that it is real, the fake ones are really good but there is an identified die marker missing on the recent quality fakes.
it is at the top end of the market, it generally to get this much for this medallion/coin you need to have a above average graded from pcgs/ngc it does have a original coin case which in itself can be worth $50-$300 in itself depending on condition but there are insufficient pictures to establish that. also the pictures to not provide much detail in regards to the quality of the coins surfaces but i do see a heap of finger print marks on the coin that immediately make me suspicious that the coin has been miss handled and may have hairline scratches that render it un-gradeable. Bottom line is no, i wouldn't pay that much for it
Check out user “allileggie99” on eBay. Has been selling clearly fake 1967 swan/goose dollars for months. I pinged the seller a few months ago, asking if they were fake or genuine (knowing they were fake), and received no reply. And people have been paying decent money for them, some >$300! Ebay feedback for the purchases includes “Great coin” and “Nice and trusted seller.” I feel sorry for these buyers.
Thanks for the info rbaggio This particular one is being sold by a very reputable coin dealer here in Auckland who also sells tons of kiwi stuff on ebay (numismatic) but if I did intend to buy it would have it checked out
Pretty much. I recently bought a PAMP 1oz platinum bar I had suspicion of being counterfeit, but I had buyer protection so I figured why not. Failed the PMV and the thickness was Way off (side wasn't shown in listing) and the font was wrong. Got refunded and now I have a fancy paperweight, but I feel for people not as informed as us
