Hi mate. I'm in Thailand all the time if your friends have a small amount of cash to transfer they will get a good rate at the airport in BKK, better than exchanging in Australia. If they have a large amount to transfer! Catching the Skytrain to Siam Square station there is a SuperRich money exchange that will give them a very good exchange rate.

South East Asian currency always better to change in respective countries, even using foreign ATM is better than using money changers or banks in Australia.

    Unless you’re exchanging privately.

Tell them research the cost of ATM transaction fees and take out the maximum they require, the minimum times.

Ie CITI atm allow you to withdraw 50,000 tbh ($2000 and) for $8 fee, much better than eight transaction of 250 withdrawals for $64 ($8 x 8)

I’m sure your friend knows, but we talking using ATM to withdraw funds from an Australian Savings debit Master or visa account, not a credit card.

Also to use standard card not a linked card, ie my anz credit card is linked to saving account, and in Australia I can chose. But foreign atm will not let you chose savings account,

I got burned at a BKK airport atm. It offered to convert to aud before withdrawl. I think it cost me 70bucks in fees when I hit yes without thinking.
