Do you have any self-imposed rules as a stacker?

As I continue on this stacking journey, it teaches me a lot of things about the hobby. Luckily silver isn't too pricey yet and always has a spot value, so no lessons learned are ever too expensive, but we do learn from them and as such establish rules. I thought it would be interesting and helpful if we shared them.

    ###############

Personally, some of my self-imposed, unwritten rules are:

I always hold 5 to 6 ounces of generic bullion for each ounce of numismatic silver.

My generic now is always in the form of government bullion - kangaroos, maples etc, not rounds.

My numismatics now are always current year and as low mintage as I can find.

I try to stick to Perth Mint as they are the highest quality numismatics that seem to be the most available and desired in Australia.

    ###############

Let me know what you think and share your rules.

Since you came out of the blue and want to know my rules

My NUMBER #1 rule is you have to Vote for me with a Like

Another one is to get MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK.

Namely, stick with Ounces instead of PRETTY pictures on the face of a coin.

In the long run, it is Ounces & Purity of each when the RESET happens that will count in your position in the World. You are welcome. _JOHNLGALT.

Good thinking Boss. I think the long-term will be shorter than you think.

Please check out the LINK I gave in the GOLD subject thingy back to the silverdoctors.com article presented by SRSRocco referring to a possible 1 to 1 ratio as I have been raving about because of the basically same quantity of above ground supplies as gold.

    O.K. here it is:

Fraser, If you are still out there, - please chime in here, or on S.D. _JLG.

    Trolls in 3.2.1....

My rule is that I am buying metals for investing only, to sell for a profit in the future and for the value of the metal. Numismatic value means nothing to me as I believe in a SHTF situation it’s purity and weight only that will matter. I buy as close to spot as I can get and postage absolutely counts towards cost. If I buy for spot plus $10 postage then I will need spot to increase by $10 to make any money on my investment.

People think they are buying gold or silver ... when what they are really doing is basically buying a spot price ... because no matter what you paid or when you paid it, the metal generally will be valued around a spot price set by anonymous faces ... technicals are one thing but don't you believe it ... we have to get away from the spot price ...

    My rules:

    1) Don't listen to any permabull publications, because they are bullshit.
    2) Don't buy any more physical silver... because it is shit.
    3) Trading derivatives against my physical silver and gold stack is where the money is, and has made me more % returns than any stacker could possibly imagine. ;)

I disagree. Saying price suppression is easy, is easy.

My only self imposed rule is to only buy low premium bars to get the most bang for my buck.

    My rules:
1). Weight and purity (999) versus price (as low over spot). Or simply said most bang for your buck.
2). Keep it in small sizes. e.g. 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz and 1oz coins/rounds, 10oz bars or 500 gram bars. Or simply said diversify in weight in case you need to sell, and it is always easier to sell 10oz bars than 100oz bars when shit hit the fan since it is easier to get multiple buyers, than just one.
3). Don't care about the image or "eeekkkkk.....is that a scratch on my bar"!
4). Don't buy "rare" collectable stuff, period!!!

5). DON'T BRAG ABOUT MY (YOUR) HOLDINGS (which should be absolutely rule number 1, but I'm to lazy to change that now  )

I agree with most of the posts.

    My number 1 rule is

Don't tell anyone what you are doing, not family, not friends, NO ONE !!!!!!!!!

    Loose lips sink ships.

Rule 2 is buy at spot or as close to spot as possible.

Bars are the best value but if you can get coins or rounds close to spot then that is a bonus.

Number 1 ... never get so attached that I can't sell when the price is right.
