The current crisis in Zimbabwe with President Mugabe under house arrest caused me to think back to Zimbabwe's bank notes and its hyperinflation in 2009. I bought a couple of 100 Trillion Dollar notes a while ago as a reminder of the danger of excessive money printing.

I am interested in getting my hands on the new Zimbabwe Bond Notes in 2 and 5 dollar denominations. The only place I could find them is a US eBay site, and postage is a bit steep. Looking for others places to acquire some.

In my research I discovered that the 100 Trillion Dollar note is the larger denomination bank note ever printed and they are now quite collectable. There's a nice irony in the fact that something I got as a token of paper money's loss in value has actual increased significantly in value.

Been watching the 100 trillion on ebay recently, I bought 10 of these years ago - same reason as you, as a physical reminder of what can go wrong with economies. Might have paid a couple of dollars each for these - now advertised for $100 ea! Not sure whether to sell or hold. Nearly as good a return as bitcoin :)

I found that eBay is generally cheaper than buying off of a banknote dealer.

For example I was buying the Zimbabwe 100 trillion notes @$5 on eBay and the local dealer wanted @$20.

I have a very tenuous link via friends of friends to Zimbabwe and I am also after some of these so I will reach out. Let you know how I go, can't guarantee anything.

When I was in Jordan I bought some Iraqi notes with Saddam on the front. Probably not of any value but interesting pieces .

The Zimbabwean Dollar (zwd) was established to replace Rhodesian Dollar and to signify the nation’s independence from the UK in 1980. It was redenominated 3 times until its eventual collapse in 2009 due to hyperinflation caused by unregulated printing of money, the Land reform program, and government involvement in the Second Congo War under Mugabe. Today, Zimbabweans rely on a multi-currency economic system set in place where money (especially US dollars) from around the world has become legal tender in place of Zimbabwe currency.
