Does anyone know where you can get 1 of this in Australia? Or anywhere in Sydney where you can get your coin verified?

I have no knowledge of an Australian supplier, I have seen the basic model here on stackers sold for around $800, you can get one imported from the USA under a grand and beat the customs and gst import duties etc, but I have never seen the PMV pro version here in Oz, no doubt they are here but import of a unit comes with customs and Gst duties due to the cost. However I do feel that even if you did indeed find one from an OZ supplier you may as well import one yourself. Its an item that only serious stackers would be likely to have and due to that fact probably would not easily part with. Purchase is warranted if you are running a business and is claimable for depreciation, that being the case most would just fork out the $$ for a XRF.

Most likely this is all info that you would have worked for yourself in your research, but posted as I see you are a new member.

Thanks Ben. You are right it does cost just to import. that why I was wondering if can get it locally. It seems better than the older version with all the latest testing. Especially with many fake that are "AAA" quality. I just get harder to tell. Will any bullion store be able to help verify if we walk into the shop and ask?

Yes if you have a good relationship with your Bullion outlet they will test for you on the XRF, I have an arrangement for just that with my home refined Silver and Gold bars. You will need to have that conversation with them yourself, don't just expect it as a service, If you do approach you local outlet give them a heads up before hand by phone to let them know you are coming in so they know to expect you and can work out the front desk between customers if need be.

Ebay will be the best and cheapest option.
I got mine a few weeks ago with the 20% ebay code. (and my friend brought it over with him coming back from America, saved about $700 approx in all compared to buying locally)

There are two main suppliers, both in America (Pinehurst and michaelriley25).
I went with Michael as his response and manner which I had about the PMV was better compared to Pinhurst.
He also posted it on day of purchase with was great, so thumbs up from me :).

EXACTLY what I was about to post haha. I got my (basic) PMV from him and he was super helpful.

What size/range difference between the large wand and the bullion wand?

The only problem with the original pmv is it measures gold and copper with the same resistivity. So you might have to do other simple tests as weight and thickness .
Thats were a ultra-sonic thickness tester comes in handy and fairly cheap.

This statement is not true, it doesn't measure the same resistivity for gold and copper. The original PMV is very accurate and will tell the difference of a 22ct gold coin that has either 5.33% of copper or 8.33%. It will even fail something that is the incorrect mix of gold/copper content ie 91.67Au, 2%Ag, 7.33%Cu. You may be thinking silver as it is very close in resitivity but still not the same, counterfeiters will try use a composition of these to match resistivity of gold or silver. But copper does not pass for silver...

It is seen now that counterfeiters can replicate the resistivity of gold or silver to "trick" the machine but then the dead giveaway is size. Specific gravity is the key here. Yes a ultrasonic thickness tester would be very helpful here.

I have made a simple spreadsheet with formula's (took a while to formulate) whereby I can just input weight/length/width/diameter etc to give me an expected measurement due to the specific gravity. Therefore if I can measure the bar/coin and it can give me a pretty good idea of what to expect. These are the calculations that the PMV pro does internally except is has its own precise thickness measurement tool. Myself, I use a vernier caliper but realistically I haven't really needed to use it much as experience can usually detect a fake regarding to size anyway.

I got 20% off the product and posted it to my friend in America (so postage was free), and he came to Australia a week later with it.
(By the way the Ebay 20% do not come up to often but most of the time there is 10%.)

Do you mean any wand or the new bullion wand. I would suggest to get all the wands. better to have them than not in case you start to collect certain items and unable to test properly in the future
