2017 S. Korea 1oz Silver 1 Clay Chiwoo Cheonwang 1st pre-sale sighting

The 2016s sold out very quickly about a month ago, and now command a crazy premium on the after market, the 2017 design looks to be a nice follow up.

Just got an email blast from Aurinum.de that featured these (23.90 Euros each) along with several other coins, and now their site seems to be down LOL

 

so help me out guys on this one. I have never seen these before, was 2016 the first year of issue? What is the expected 2017 mintage and have I missed the boat already?

 

The mintage for the 2016 is 30,000, mintage for the 2017 is 50,000. You missed the boat on the 2016s if you wanted to purchase at issue price as they're sold out everywhere except a few places in Europe and for those you'd have to pay about $60 USD each not including shipping costs. 25,000 of the 2017 mintage is being sold outside of South Korea, the other 25,000 within the country.

 

still could be a good one at 50,000

 

I'm convinced the 2017s will out perform a lot of other coins that are on sale right now for around the same price, but time will tell.

 

I've got an email from Aurinum that these will be delayed to mid late April.

 

Modern Coin Mart also updated their site to reflect the delay and they said the 1 Clay "denomination" is being removed from the 2017 because of pressure from internal goverment/business interests. Another interesting update for the series.

It will be interesting to see them in hand, the depections are not that great and we'll know once and for all of 1 clay will be on them. The latest rumor I heard was that they were waiting until 2018 to remove that pseudo denomination. In any case we got our presale order in, I'm glad we didn't buy back in Feb since those who did ended up having their money tied up for months, they don't get their allotment any sooner than those of us who just ordered, and in the meantime I was able to use funds I would have spent on the 2017 chiwoos to get in on the "bottom floor" on the Swans On an unrelated note, I love the Singapore lunar series designs! We have some of the super tiny .3g gold horses (carded).

They are selling pretty briskly but I'm surprised gainesville received so many out of the 25k, South Korean dealers are also selling internationally around the same price point. It will be interesting to see if demand grows for these, they seem to have good potential. Unless I'm wrong they really aren't on the radar in Australia, and a bit obscure in Europe, the demand for now seems to be mainly North America and Asia.

Do not know if other dealers bought them all or not.
