Sales of gold coins and minted bars fell 53 percent in April to 10,490 ounces from 22,232 ounces in March, it said. Silver sales also fell sharply, slipping 35 percent to 468,977 ounces from 716,283 ounces in March, it said. "Gold market fundamentals remain strong with simmering geopolitical tensions and continued economic uncertainty set to push sales higher again at a future date," The Perth Mint said in a statement. Gold prices hit a five-month high in April at $1,295 an ounce amid rising tensions between the United States and North Korea, but values have since fallen about 3 percent.
