Only new to all things Stacking, and like the design on both.

Is one better than the other to stack?

They make a whole lot less of the Libertads then they do ASE's each year. I guess the only gripe I have is the Libertads come from the mint in a really crappy paper roll with tape to seal the ends. The bottom coin on the only tube I bought was stained from what I guess is sun exposure since one end has a clear cap. You dont have that problem with the ASE. Either way I would still opt for the Libertads.

They don't make 2 oz or 5 oz silver eagles.
Maybe you could get a 5 oz libertad for less than 5 eagles.

The Libertad has great artwork and it comes in 1/20oz, 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1/2oz, 1oz, 2oz, 5oz and kilo sizes as well as proofs and annual proof sets. That's hard to argue with. If you're in Canada or the US, the ASE has superior liquidity and gets a better price when you sell. Many LCS's and show vendors here treat and price Libertads like generic rounds because the Libs have no denomination. I buy all the Libs I can find at generic round prices. Shawn was right about those nasty cardboard tubes, too. If you buy a tube of older Libs, the coins are always absolutely grimy.

If you're in Canada/US and you want superior liquidity and a better selling price, ASEs are the way to go. In Australia, I don't know. I'd guess the shipping charges have to make prices on ASEs and Libs nasty. You might get better value for your dollar with Kooks or Koalas.

I would go with Libertads as well. :) Have one Mexican coin set, and must say that reverse is also very nice. :)

    Thanks guys.

Looks like the numbers are for the Libertad. I've found them around for a little cheaper than the American Silver Eagle too, so leaning more that way now.

The Libertad gives notions of Mexican Banditos and the Maginificent Seven for some reason. lol

Yeah, a lot of Mexican coins are dedicated to Mexican revolution(s). And I was always very fond of some Spanish words and statements. Wasup sounds great, but probably nothing beats "Que Passa"? :)

I like my Libertads and store them in plastic coin tubes than can be bought for a couple of dollars.
They also look nice in Airtites especially the 2 and 5 oz coins.
If you get the opportunity the kilo Libertad is a stunner !

I really wanted to like the Libertad, but I was disappointed in the ones that I bought. Not near the quality of the ASE or Perth Mint. Maybe I just got a bum lot.

1kg Libertad would make a gorgeous paperweight!

I agree that is the nice feature of the Libertad, but I have ever only seen the 1/20, 1/10, 1, 2 & 5oz here in Australia... I would buy 1/4's and 1/2's if available as my fractional ASE alternative.

Bullion Bourse in Perth seems to be only dealer with any variety of Libertads.

Edit: Just went to APMEX, the premium on 1kg Libertads is over 100% - nearly $1600USD!

That is a tough one those are my favorite 2 coins as far a bullion coins are concerned. I would have to go with whatever one I would be getting the best deal on at the time.

The premium is high on the kilos because of the mintage--only 400 made this year --they will appreciate quite nicely

Yeah I need to buy myself at least 1 kilo Mexican coin someday. Aztec Calendar looks amazing.

BB is where I get mine though they didn't have any in stock last week. Cheapest place I've seen the Aztec too.

Contrary to Silver Pauper, I'll never forget the day I bought my first tube of Eagles from a dealer in Syd. They felt so flimsy and cheap that I thought they were fakes... For me Libertads are the winner. The proof 5oz is a beaut.

Think the Libs usually have a slightly smaller premium. Go for whichever is the cheapest, you're probably going to just chuck them into storage anyway.

    House,

Was the premium on the 1kg Libertad as ridiculous as what APMEX is listing?

As for the quality of the Libertad vs the ASE... I have been buying ASE's for years and have been planning to add Libertads to the mix, but only recently bought a handful of Libertads. I have always liked the design of Libertad, but the Libertads I have are not minted to the same standard as the ASE's I have. Still a nice coin and I intend to add more and especially like the proofs. And maybe I will reward myself with a 1kg Libertad next year for being such a good stacker.

Like I said I could have gotten a bum lot, and so respect your greater experience with this coin.

Can't remember as I don't bother looking APMEX prices when I can get the same product here.

Did get my first one from APMEX through Maggie, don't think there was that much of an excessive premium on it at the time. Probably didnt even check  Think the mintage is lower this year so guessing that's how they justify the extra $'s
