While it might not happen in the immediate future it is not unrealistic to expect that our government will try and set up some form of carbon trading scheme on the demand side at some point. I do not believe Australia (or most other countries for that matter) will get close to meeting the net zero demands made of us, so it is to be expected that some form of market intervention will be attempted. Central Bank Digital Currencies are on their way. At a minimum they will further the transition away from cash. I agree with the previous comments that at some point the transition will be moved along by legislation outlawing transactions in cash over certain amounts.
