Yes silverdude, the colonial German East African elephant gold coin is also one of my favorites, but there is another German Colonial gold coin
that is even better looking and takes the cake as far as I am concerned.

I am of course referring to the iconic German New Guinea 20 Mark Bird of Paradise gold coin.

The one pictured below sold a few weeks ago in a Sydney auction for over $82,000.

You're right yakka, matter of fact, I was torn between the bird of paradise and the elephant. Both are absolutely georgeous coins I would love to have in my collection. The elephant is more attainable, maybe some day...

How do you post the picture directly into the reply?

I am old enough to remember when you could buy an Unc bird of paradise coin for under $10 k and an elephant coin for under $1k.
The one that sold for $80k in Sydney was not even in strictly Unc grade!

It's simple, just save the photo and download it on to your folder, then upload it on to here.

If the file is too large to upload then use an app to minimize or compress the photo first.

    To each his own, Erin.

I preferred the older 50 pesos 1.2 oz circulation coins myself, just wish I did not sell them all.

I had a slabbed one… would’ve kept it if it wasn’t for the plastic… I much prefer the bare coin. I prefer the obverse of the newer coin… very nice…

Nice one bubbles, did you get one for the stack, what's the price on them?

Although, personally I think I would prefer the Kimberly Sunrise/Sunset coins issued some years ago.

Had a chance to purchase them at around spot price when gold was $1600, didn't do it and have regretted it ever since.

If you want to talk about a classic design, then Una And The Lion is up there among them.

This particular coin is coming up for Auction in Sydney for an estimated $650,000.

So if you have pockets that reach to the ground and balls to match go for it!

too hard to choose just one, gonna be greedy and list a whole lot that I think are contenders.

For some reason I like shields on gold coins, not sure why, just think a lot of them look good on a gold coin.

    Canada $10 gold

Young QV shield reverse gold sovereigns

    Swiss 20 Franc

And then there's the numerous LMU gold coins, 20 Lire, 20 Franc French rooster, the list goes on and on.

I'm getting some round 50's and crowns mounted.
Ordered the bezels , had to get bails from another supplier. Now they are with a jeweller and a 3 week wait.
Now because I'm not happy with what is available, I'm going to design my own :)
I'll get it designed on cad all in one piece.
    That's the plan.
    I'll keep it updated.
