First I have heard of this and must be a brand new policy.Seems they no longer accept cash at the Perth Mint.COVID-19 seems a weak excuse considering it's been ongoing for 2 years.Personally I had always made my purchases with cash there but will probably just go to ABC in future.

Nice work tracking down the 4 Chan post.
I guess people in Perth still has the free market (They can use cash at a premium price and buy bullion/coins at ABC Bullion, Swan Bullion in Maddington).
It's Disappointing. To see. Now I can see when Corona came about that why the government where prepared to lick their wounds and sweep the 10,000 dollar cash ban under the carpet and make it appear like it never happened.
As I guess their back up play to push centralised totally digital currency was for vendors can ban cash at their point of sale. Either on their own account through fear of spreading the virus (So many never went back after Corona was a nothing burger) or that the virus gave them a free kick to change their polocy on cash to appear "progressive" without too much negative feedback.
I have been asked for my phone number when buying limited mintage coins in person, ie 2021 Silver Swan within nearly a half of a year. That's a big slippery slope. This whole Covid 19 has shown that the Slippery slope Fallacy. Now asking for ID for a roll of Roos value about $1000 where $5000 is the threshold the Perth mint would need to ask for.

I don't spend my $ anywhere where they only take card .
Some servos in Melbourne have signs on the pumps saying card only.
And I pay cash , waiting for the moment when they don't take cash and I don't have funds in my account ever.

What Perth Mint needs is a Perth Mint phone ap for purchasing PM. Then Perth Mint and everyone else who wants to know will know everything they need to know and probably more without having to ask the buyer anything except if they want a bag.

Never been there ... do they even have bags?

I though that any business is obliged to accept Australian legal tender?

It seems that any business is free to do whatever they choose.

We had some Woolies stores here in Victoria that banned cash payments last year, but public backlash and buyer boycotts
soon made them change their minds.

That's the only way to make the bastards change their ways.

Whinging about it on here won't do it, but stopping doing business with them might if enough people give them the middle finger and buy their precious metals elsewhere.

Maybe they want customers shopping at ABC and elsewhere to take the heat off them? Maybe they really are short on PMs, who knows.
Is it worthwhile phoning up and complaining? Maybe i will just to see what they say.

Paywave is only up to $200, anything more than that you have to press your bank key into a grubby eftpos terminal. How is that substantially more hygenic than paying cash? The tellers have gloves on most of the time anyway because they're dealing with mint coins ffs.

Yeah that could be feasable, I haven't seen them release another 1 oz coin since the 2021 1oz dragon since 2 months ago. I like that.

Perhaps its a "forecasting signal" the arrival of delta variant in Western Australia being a state corporation as well.

occam's razor, in my opinion is that would be that the Perth mint is towing the globalist/federal government line for digital currency and the elimination of cash.

Asked the sales person why they don't accept cash - told cash is dirty and can be infected with Covid. Told her there is no Covid in WA and I have not heard that cash had been implicated in any case of Covid transmission. I also asked if the ban on cash was more likely related to Perth Mint's sale of its "no longer" gold backed ETF to Goldman Sachs and Dick Haynes relationship to the banks and LBMA ? Way above their pay grade as they did not know what I was talking about ? Anyway she was too busy to continue the discussion as she was looking for imaginary customers without cash looking to buy ridiculously over priced Jewelry. It is bizarre that the new PM shop front is a massive jewelry store and the bullion section is a tiny corner.

Maybe it would be bizarre for a newbie stacker, it should be no surprise to a seasoned stacker like yourself, Ronnie.

We, bullion consumers, are only a tiny proportion of the population, that is why they think that they can treat us with contempt and indifference.

Until we get more than 1% onboard as precious metal stackers these types of occurrences will only continue to become more common.

That is also why the precious metal prices (particularly silver ) are so depressed and easily manipulated on the downside, at least with gold there
is some price support coming from the governments and central bank purchases to limit the downside potential, unfortunately with silver no longer
being a monetary metal, there is not the same institutionalised buying to lift the silver prices higher.:(

I think that is only for settling debts.

e.g. If you eat a restaurant meal, then go to pay, they have an obligation to accept cash to settle the debt.

They don't have stock anyway, so just support your local bullion dealer.

For WA, just places i know of.

    Swan Bullion in Maddington,
ABC bullion, somewhere on St George's terrace, does anyone know if they still take cash?
The coin shop accross the road from the Perth mint.
    Perth Bullion company in Belmont?
