Since this is my first piece and I'm using it as a test I don't mind messing it up. So I tried bending it. I can bend it with my fingers but it took a good bit of pressure. I tried poking it with the tip of a writing pin. It did leave a tiny dimple but I had to once again put a good bit of pressure. I also scratched with a needle. It did scratch but didn't flake. Has anyone here tried bending or poking any tiny bars? I'm just curious how soft is soft when it comes to gold. From what I've been told I was expecting it to bend and dent super easy. I'm a noob still on Bing I did find a video of a guy bending a little coin he had to put a bit of pressure to it. I think it's just hard to bend because it's so hard to grip.
24kt should be soft, bend-able.. but you can also snap it... The lower the it, the brittle it becomes
Those 1g portions are soft enough to snap. But they should bend first, not crack, as gold is malleable and not brittle.
It does bend, has a consistency between metal and clay. I would compare it to aluminum. Definitely not brittle. I'm sure it checks out at this point. I basically broke it half and scratched it next to other verified pieces of different karats. It's gold in and out. Passes acid test too. I had no problem destroying it as it was a test piece. I want to familiarize myself with gold so I don't get ripped off in the future. The guy I bought it from too seems legit. Owns a shop and has one of those expensive xray machines.
