Texas Freeze Triggers Global Plastics Shortage
Numerous chemical plants were shut down as state lost power last month, disrupting a global supply chain for consumer goods

The February freeze that triggered mass blackouts in Texas led to chemical plant shutdowns that are disrupting global supply chains, causing a shortage of the raw materials needed for everything from medical face shields to smartphones.

The power outages brought the world’s largest petrochemical complex to a standstill, forcing more plants in the Gulf of Mexico region to shut down than during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. A month later, many remain offline, and analysts said it could be months more before all are fully back.

Prices for polyethylene, polypropylene and other chemical compounds used to make auto parts, computers and a vast array of plastic products have reached their highest levels in years in the U.S. as supplies tighten. For example, prices for polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, have more than doubled since last summer, according to S&P Global Platts.

That is expected to result in cost increases and delays for auto makers, home builders and countless other businesses, with impacts ultimately felt by consumers, according to companies and analysts. The shortages are part of a growing economic price tag of a storm that knocked out a third of natural-gas production in Texas and forced some chip makers to curtail output, exacerbating a semiconductor shortfall.

sanctions and counter sanctions started. there is not going to be anything as usual. it will be unusual from day on. eu~russia is closed, no more flow of relation. china~us will as well. trades are broken, usd role will be further reduced.

You're dribbling again. If what you say is actually the truth then both Russia and China might want to do something about the huge reserves of USD they've built up over the past 12 months.

    But of course they can't.

There are only two ways, both highly noticeable.

    1. They trade USD for US exports which of course would provide a nice boost to the US domestic market and an even bigger boost to Chinese and Russian consumers. Thanks to the US the Chinese will have access to stuff that they actually desire, like clean food. Your Portly Pinko Friend From Peking won't be happy about the US coming to the rescue of the impoverished average Chinaman though. He'll probably duck out and calm his rage by murdering a few Uyghur.

    2. They sell them on the Forex market. Now China has over $3 trillion in USD and the Russkies have about $590 billion. Now, you don't have to be a supporter of the free-market, or even an opponent of fat murderous dictators to work out what's going to happen to the value of those USD reserves if those two countries decide to take their combined USD reserves to the market. They may go there wanting a cow but they'll probably just end up with beans. And not the magical kind.

My advice to you is lay off the diet of Chinese propaganda. It's bad for your brain.

^ that would be hilarious if it wasn't actually in extremely poor taste. o_O

    https://edition.cnn.com/2021/03/09/asia/china-uyghurs-xinjiang-genocide-report-intl-hnk/index.html

So it's not just the governments of Australia, the US or the UK, independent organisations are also calling out the the Chinese nation under the CPC for what it is, a corrupt, murderous regime built upon an ethical culture of disregard for individuals.

The Chinese are long overdue for their age of enlightenment - it's time they embraced the values of reason, truthfulness and individual liberty. The West invented it centuries ago, all China has managed to do is invent paper, gunpowder and ice cream. Oh and silk. I suppose without those thing there'd be nothing for the CPC to wrap the bodies of their murdered countrymen in after they shot them. The paper is handy too for getting written false confessions after being tortured.

And I'll just repeat this figure: Chinese governments murdered over 91 000 000 of their own people during the 20thC. That's more than any other a nation in history. In what universe can anyone claim sympathy toward the Chinese State?

the West represent 11% of world population, China is 1/5
China understand the West, but the west has no understanding of China
the West can never represent the world, its just 11%, there is 89 % of the rest
    its obvious 69 > 20 > 11
why would the Chinese State claims sympathy ???
China is being asked to come over, half way on the map in Alaska

Just I wonder, what is the punishment she is talking about
on the sanction and counter sanction of being polite to respond to that sanction ;)

China is 1/5th. But respectfully speaking, what percentage of those live a subsistence lifestyle?

    Numbers don't mean everything.

Yep and you can safely wear a Mao T shirt down the street and not get stopped nor a sideways glance. Would be the same with a Stalin image....Try doing same with Adolf H and you'd be lynched or arrested before getting the corner. I'm not defending the latter in any sense, just pointing out the hypocrisy of media, the left and most if not all western governments who rightly vilify and denounce Hitler but give Mao and Uncle Joe (to a degree) a pass even when their atrocities on their own people far exceed other maniac's in history.

CCP thinking says it all....people are expendable when you have a lot of them.

TOKYO, Oct. 17, 1964 (UPI) -- Chairman Mao Tse-Tung maintains that Communist China has nothing to fear from nuclear weapons. But his people have paid a fearful price to develop the atomic bomb of their own. Mao is said to have told a Yugoslav visitor to Peking in 1957, "We have a very large territory and a big population. Atomic bombs could not kill all of us."

"What if they killed 300 million of us? We would still have many people left."

    Edit: typo
